History

Not much is known about their history prior to their becoming part of the Romulan Empire. They have never developed and still do not possess a written language of their own. What is known is that they are a peaceful agricultural people.

When the Romulans expanded and took control of their world there was no conflict as the natives had no history of warfare or knowledge of weapons. In fact things did not change that much once they became part of the Romulan Empire.

Nothing really changed for the Yalidians. They continued to be pre industrial farmers. Every effort by the Romulans to introduce advanced technology into their lives failed. They had no trouble accepting and using machines that required muscle power or animal power to make them work but anything else they refused to touch.

Fortunately the use of bioengineered seeds and genetically improved animals did not go against their way of life. As a result the Yalidians became the largest single provider of food with in the Empire.

In the end the Romulans gave up on trying to change them. What they did do was to transplant many of them to other worlds. These colonies continued to do what they do best: produce food.

When the Hobus star went super nova and destroyed both Romulas and Remus it also destroyed the 2 largest off world colonies of Yalidians in the Romulan Empire.

Government

As part of the Romulan Empire they have no government of their own. What they do have is a civilian Romulan governor and his staff that run things. This actually works out well for them as they never really had any form of government in the past. Each village and community was independent.

Description

The Yalidians are only about 4’ tall on average. Very few of them are obese as they are an active people. They have light brownish, yellowish skins. Their heads are narrow with a high forehead above a set of wide spaced, deep sunk brown eyes. Their face is completely flat and their nose is part of a thin line running from the top of their lip to between their eyes where it sinks in as that is their nose. They have no facial hair.

Physically they tend to be lean, athletic, energetic and clean. They smile a lot and enjoy music and social interaction. While they will wear what ever kind of clothes are best suited to the environment and location they are living in they still maintain their traditional garb which includes sturdy animal skin boots, leather reinforced pants and for women a loose cream coloured shirt.

Physiology

They are a sturdy active people. As a result of this and the well balanced diet they live on they also tend to be very healthy. No unusual aliments or conditions have been recorded in regards to them. They also seem to be fairly disease resistant as there have been no recorded instances of them contracting native viruses on other worlds.

Psychology

A happy friendly people, they have no history of mental instability and very few age related mental issues. Part of this may be due to their simplistic life style and part may be due to the close nit nature of their society.

Religion

While they do not seem to have a true organized religion they do follow certain cultural restrictions with iron willed determination. No technology that is not man or animal powered except those powered by the natural forces of the world around them. They resist any and all changes that might affect their way of life.

Mythology

They have a strong belief in nature and the concept that the planet they live on is alive. As such they celebrate many festivals and holidays that revolve around the changing seasons, harvest schedules or stellar activity.

Society

They have a very simplistic life style with everyone being equal. They all work together, farm together and harvest together. They also celebrate together and it is common for every one in a community to attend a marriage or some other special event. These usually turn into a massive party with lots of music and dancing.

Culture

They enjoy music and have no problem adopting new musical instruments or musical styles from other cultures and species. Most of these styles tend to be uplifting, spirited, joyful tunes that inspire people to merriment and dance. They also love to carve intricate designs into wood and on rare occasions stone as well. Rich exotic fabrics are used to make special costumes for various celebrations.

Customs

Large celebrations that include every single member of a community is the norm for these people. No matter what the event is it usually results in the participation of the entire community.

Technology

They will only use technology that they can build, repair or power by the natural forces of nature or by animals or people. They are in a permanent pre-industrial state and have no interest or desire to change.

This does not stop them from living near or working with other species that do use advanced technology.

Economy

They are a 100% agricultural based society. With the advanced seeds and genetically altered animals that they breed and grow they now produce more food than they could ever use. They trade this food for raw materials such as exotic woods and cloth. They also trade for fruit and other exotic foods that are not native to the world that they live on.

Military

None, not even a police force. The Romulan government provides them with all the protection they ever need. In fact all their off world colonies fall under the protection of the Romulan Senate and as such any actions taken against them are dealt with quickly and harshly.
