Introduction

The Cambridge is a standard Duderstadt class long-range reconnaissance science vessel, tasked with exploration and mapping of uncharted areas of the Alpha and Beta Quadrants in order to identify and document potentially threatening spatial phenomena, organisms, and technologies. The Cambridge is the latest in this class, with the most notable being the USS Intrepid. Cambridge is currently running training exercises and undergoing field testing before it begins a three year mission under command of Captain Sobal.

Current Mission

Following the Dominion War, additional attention and concern was directed towards the problem of stable wormholes and the potential threat they could represent, if they were accessible to unfriendly powers, such as the Dominion or the Borg. Additionally, over the decades since the founding of the United Federation of Planets, there have been many significant spatial phenomena which posed direct risks to the wellbeing of Federation member worlds or Starfleet facilities. The Duderstadt class of ships has been designed with these priorities in mind, with a substantial suite of advanced long-range sensors, and a significantly increased yield of various probes.
