The morning after his nineteenth birthday, Private Taggart was found asleep in one of the many fountains on the promenade. He was wearing a pair of cargo shorts underneath a bright pink tutu, and a dark green t-shirt with the sleeves roughly cut off that bore the insignia of the 292nd Marine Infantry on the left breast. He was wearing a tiara that was bent out of shape, pink fishnet gloves and a bright pink sash floated nearby that said “Birthday Princess”, whilst a huge pin badge proclaiming “19 Today!” was hung around his neck on a cord as a make-do medallion. His face had been plastered with rouge, lipstick and eye makeup whilst Taggart’s left arm bore the red and sore looking inking of a pretty fresh tattoo of his regiments crest, above a simple inscribing of “Recon”.

Private Taggart was part of the Marine insertion that took control of the Orion pirate ship ''Skullmasher'', later being promoted to Corporal by Major Tatash and transferred into Alpha Company.

In late-2397 and early-2398 Taggart undertook a training course that included standard Starfleet Security and Diplomatic modules with the intention of helping to form a proposed Diplomatic Protection Squad within the 292nd Marines. Having completed the course Taggart was instead promoted to the fleet rank of Ensign instead of the Marines 2nd Lieutenant equivalent and reassigned to the Starfleet Diplomatic Corps aboard the station as a dedicated SDC Security Officer.
