With the ship unusually intact after a mission, the Engineering team begins working through Geoffrey Teller's 'rainy day project list,' and in clearing out a compartment used for storage, discovers a hidden corner of the ship which they decide to re-purpose into an observatory lounge for the crew. After installing a dedicated optical array on the hull, the space is enriched with a facsimile telescope which provides a view even more incredible than the one available through the rooms large windows. A holographic projector mounted in the center of the room furthers the effect, allowing anyone to see the images produced by the optical array in vivid three dimensional detail. The space is named by the Captain herself after she becomes enraptured by the view and the crew quickly takes to the new venue for relaxation and, in the case of Wil Ukinix, schnitzel. | |||

These lessons are brought to a close as the holographic ship is variously pulverized, shattered, detonated, gouged and, in one spectacular instance, flattened against the side of an asteroid. Lt. Commander Evan Delano receives word from Starfleet that the USS Diligent, a prototype Starship with an unusual design, is at the nearby Livernois shipyards undergoing final construction and testing. With Starfleet's local staff gone, Commander Delano is asked to take charge of the effort to complete the ship and, with the permission of the Captain, takes a skeleton crew of officers with him to bring the problematic project to a successful conclusion. Once aboard, Commander Delano and Lt. Cmdr. Teller discover that the legacy of Armin Illanos is alive and well when they realize the ship is littered with substandard parts, replaced as part of Illanos' profiteering. It'll take long hours and profound effort, but the small crew of the Diligent rallies behind Commander Delano to begin putting the ship right as the Veritas is called away to compete in a local race event elsewhere in the Shoals. | |||
