As the appearance of anomalies throughout the ship become more frequent, the crew attempt to find a way to predict them and perhaps hold one in place long enough to understand just what has happened to Renos and Wellbelove. However, yet another rift soon occurs causing an explosion in the Main Shuttlebay. Lt. Cmdr. Fairhug dispatches a team led by Lt. Darshana to evacuate the 'bay and bring the blazing fires under control, but soon after arriving, Lieurenant JG [[Daniel Cain]] begins to experience hallucinations in which he imagines Darshana, Malko and Morin to be some form of changelings working for the Dominion. After a confrontation which leads to injuries for both Darshana and Malko, Cain is eventually subdued and taken to Sickbay.

With the situation in the Shuttlebay under control, the Bridge is the next area to experience a rift. With the crew looking on, the anomaly begins to destabilise, eventually leaving a bizarre-looking alien exposed. The alien is quadrupedal, with Z-shaped front limbs, tentacles protruding from its sides, antennae, glowing green eyes and a beak-like mouth. It also communicates through something more akin to whale song than humanoid speech, presenting a challenge for the Unicersal Translator. However, after some good work from Lieutenant JG [[Conrad Adler]] and Ensign [[Darian Vol]], Lt. Cmdr. Fairhug is eventually able to communicate with the alien and it soon becomes clear that the visitor is a member of a species that call themselves the '[[Oophyd]]' and that they had essentially abducted Renos and Wellbelove in order to study them. Despite their misguided actions, the Oophyd are a benevolent species and after some fine diplomacy work by Lt. Cmdr. Fairhug, are convinced to return the Apollo's CO and Transporter Chief. It is then agreed that the Apollo crew and the Oophyd will exchange information before the two factions eventually part ways on friendly terms.
Admiral Renos, however, while physically unharmed, is returned to the Apollo in a comatose state which remains a mystery to both the Oophyd and the Apollo's medics.
