With no small amount of trepidation, Shayne came aboard the Starship Gemini, in the middle of an unmitigated crisis. With no other dedicated helmsman available, Shayne was thrust into the center seat during combat. After the events surrounding his initial boarding, Shayne began to settle into the rhythm of life aboard the Gemini. Friends were made, and Shayne was eventually promoted to the rank of Lieutenant J.G. Captain Frost, Shayne's first commanding officer, was instrumental in his early career, offering a steady hand and a sympathetic ear to the young helmsman.
