During a routine surveying mission on Leron III, Choi and the away team under Lieutenant Solaris McLaren crash landed in a sensor blind spot in what the Hinji considered a sacred land called the Dawn Cradle. There, the team made contact with a Hinji monk who led them to a monastery. Choi reported that group of Hinji turned on the monastery and set fire to a building while looking to attack the Starfleet officers. McLaren's team took shelter in the monastery's sanctum, which led into what is now believed to be a scientific facility left over from the days of the Tkon Empire, guarded by Hinji warriors.
