Katy is a shy person; this is often at odds with how confident she is when she's in her element.  In social situations she tends to be quiet and retiring.  In order to become aquainted with her, a person generally has to seek her out.  Once the ice is broken, Katy is a very engaging person in small groups.</p>

<p>She is a person of extremes, prone to fits of nervousness and likewise to take-charge confidence</p>

<p>Her greatest passions are martial arts and thought-experiments.</p>

<p>Katy's best friend is an artificially intelligent device bequeathed to her by her uncle, which she calls '[[Unky]]'.</p>

<p>Her other best friend is [[MacKenna, Ash|Ash MacKenna]], who she met on her first assignment.  The two can frequently be found together when off-duty.</p>

<p>She has been in love with Ash since shortly after they became friends, but has never told her so.</p>

<p>Although only 1/4 Orion, Katy's grandmother's genes run strong in her.  Her variances from human norm are as follows:</p>

# Her skin is greenish due to her copper-based circulatory system, much like a vulcan.  The green deepens significantly when Katy is flushed, making her appear almost like a full-blooded Orion of light skin tone.

# The particular blending of Orion and Human genes that produced Katy's father Mark (and continued in Katy herself) produced an ability to see a little way into the ultraviolet.  Other than extra enjoyment of the appearance of many flowers and a few insects, this has little impact on her life.

<p>Katy is accomplished in an unusual martial art she calls Shiji Gungfu, which she claims to have been trained in since childhood.</p>

<p>Katy is a 'time sensitive', which despite the impressive name mostly involves feeling sick when something goes wrong with time nearby.</p>

<p>Katy is a horrible cook.</p>

<p>She enjoys learning to play the fiddle, despite having no talent at it whatever.  Others nearby do ''not'' enjoy it nearly as much.</p>

<p>She is also a pretty bad liar.</p>

<p>Katy ignores the tradition of addressing people by rank whenever possible, preferring first names even with her superiors.  Along the same lines, she insists that all her security people call her by her own first name.</p>

<p>When nervous or excited, she tends to babble.  Unless she's concentrating on her job.</p>

<p>She speaks with an accent close to a 'Home Counties' accent.</p>

Katy's office is on deck 512, the same deck as one of the main security offices, near the main brig.  It is still sparsely-furnished and has three doors - a door to the corridor outside, a door to the adjoining security office, and (most vital of all, in Katy's thinking) a door to a small private lavatory.  The second door she often keeps in open position, just to facilitate interaction with the other security officers on duty.   

<br><br>Her office on the Victory is somewhat smaller.  It is located on deck 9, just around the corner from the Brig and down the hall from the Armoury, and features the most comfortable chair Katy has ever sat in.

Her quarters are a cozy one-bedroom apartment on deck 905, which doesn't really look lived-in yet.  She's too used to living out of a rucksack to have filled it with much stuff yet.  Due to not being home very often, it's fairly messy, with discarded laundry lying about randomly.  Her kitchen, however, is spotless, due to its state of pretty-much-never-being-used.

<br><br>On the Victory, her quarters are on Deck 9, amidst the crew quarters.  The rooms are practically bare (most of her personal effects and decorations having been removed).   

<br><br>Both iterations of her quarters do have what she considers to be the two most important features of living-space - a big, sturdy bed for flopping down (and occasionally jumping) on, and a lavatory with a real, honest-to-goodness shower.

Katy has a device implanted in her body (a small crystalline gadget of nonhuman technology which is attached to the fascia of her abdominal wall and somehow hides itself from medical scans) which separates her from the psionic field and thusly makes telepathic contact of any sort impossible with her.
