As for Rana she went on to study astronomy while on Bajor until finally she took that leap of faith for her love of the stars brought her to Starfleet. It has been a wonderful journey ever since. No where in her imagination would she have ever conceived of the planet Earth and while attending studies in San Francisco she took advantage of her time and visited as many cities and countries that she could. After leaving the Academy Rana was assigned to SB118 until the arrival of the USS Independence. At that time the Independence had arrived through a temporal rift that was opened by a race of alien gate keepers called the Wayfarers and because of this there was a tear in the time continuum causing the Independence to be within the same flux of time although occupying separate points within the universe. It was a rare occurrence but nonetheless the Independence was quarantined for two months while the temporal anomaly was cleared.
