The '''Grendellai''' (sing. Grendellus) are a canoid race (canine-humanoid, similar to the [[Chalnoth]]). Small, of bipedal appearance, and of no great physical strength. On average they stand about 4 ' and weight about 80 lbs. Their hands have 3 fingers and an opposible thumb. They are covered with a short light brown fur. Their ears stand up on the top sides of their heads and tend to twitch when they are aggitated and lie down when they get angry. They have excellent hearing and sense of smell. Their vision seems to be about terran normal.

As a whole they seldom wear more than a pair of loose pants and boots. Their upper bodies will have 1 and on more important Grendellai 2 belts comeing up diagonally over the shoulder and back down to the waist belt. All tools, weapons and badges of rank would be worn in plain view.

Many of the Grendellai work as scavengers and pirates. They have been known to capture and cannibalize old hulls  and to capture ships' crews for disposal as slave labor. These cannibalized hulls have become known within the fleet as "Frankenstein" ships. Because the Grendellai operate on a pack mentality all of their ships are named after the alpha male who commands it. If the commander changes, regardless of the reason so does the name of the ship.
