In one tale it is said that the Ancients refered to as Atlantians lived on Earth, created the human race, but because arrogant in their advanced power which brought only destruction unto themselves. They then left Earth and literally created the planet Gaia as a replacement for their failings on Earth and then suddenly disappeared. It is said in this tale that gateways between Earth and Gaia still exist, but only possible with the technology to "make thoughts into reality". The possiblity of a technology that can transport you from one part of the galaxy to another part almost instanteous is of great power.


What happened to the Ancients is anyone's guess. They left little or no relics or monuments or ruins for us to study. Which leaves this myth as a myth until one discovery which hasn't been proven or perhaps ignored and denied by other races. The incident in the Vilmoran system where Captain Picard and his crew discovered a message implying that all humanoid lifeforms in the galaxy share the same origin [http://memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/The_Chase_(episode) Star Trek TNG Episode "The Chase"]. The message was watched by a few other species present explaining that the Humans, Romulans (and by extension, Vulcans), Klingons, and Cardassians possess a mutual ancestor.
