Born in 2352, the only child of civilian engineer Barnes Cody and his wife, Barbara Jennet-Cody, owner of Jennet Trade Securities Corporation (JTSC), David Cody led a pretty quiet life on Mars Colony. He attended primary and secondary education, often times helping his father rebuild machines, and on one occasion, had the opportunity to help his father restore an old Forerunner Shuttlecraft.
Born in 2352, the only child of civilian engineer Barnes Cody and his wife, Barbara Jennet-Cody, owner of Jennet Trade Securities Corporation(JTSC), David Cody led a pretty quiet life on Mars Colony. He attended primary and secondary education, often times helping his father rebuild machines, and on one occasion, had the opportunity to help his father restore an old Forerunner Shuttlecraft (what would later be identified as the JTSC-3 Prototype).

By the time Cody hit eighteen and finished secondary education, he decided to try his hand as a crew hand on a Freight Trader and signed on under Trader Captain Gersh Nathan in 237005.14. He worked from deck hand up to trade negotiator during the next eight years, until going into a negotiation with a Ferengi trader named Tvatec.
By the age of eighteen, David signed on as a crew hand under Captain Gersh Nathan on a freight trade ship in 237005.14 and worked from crew hand up to trade negotiator during the course of the next eight years, until a fatal trade deal with a Ferengi trader named Tvatec. Despite having somewhat familiarity with the Ferengi, David was underminded by the deal and found himself on the short end.

Cody made a critical mistake, and ended up in bond to Tvatec on 237804.30. Tvatec ordered Cody’s immediate transfer from Capt. Nathan’s trade crew and placed the 26 years old Cody under his command. Cody spent two years running the trade routes with Tvatec and picked up the Ferengi language (as well as the Ferengi trade system, a far different cry from Terran trade activities). He has been in weapons transfers, as well as medical supply runs. He was cleared for shuttle and small craft piloting under the Ferengi government.
Instead of cashing in, Tvatec wanted Cody. David found himself bonded under the Ferengi, at the time 26, and would spend his next two years running the trade routes for Tvatec, picking up both the Ferengi language and their trade system, primarily as a trade securities investigator. From people, to precious valuables, medical supplies, weapons and ships. The Ferengi Government eventually cleared him for ship piloting as his quarries took him further and further out.

It wasn’t until 238010.04 that Cody was able to buy off his bond and convince another Ferengi trader, a known Starfleet supplier, to take him back to the Sol system. He was done with trade securities, and wanted to get back to Mars Colony to visit the family. It wasn’t until his return to Mars that he learned his parents had been discovered dead in their house in 237507.04. Cody himself had been listed as missing.
To the Ferengi, David is known as a Specialist Retriever.

After a huge amount of payoffs to both the Ferengi who took him back, as well as Tvatec (who ironically enough tried to hire Cody back), Cody was able to prove his whereabouts and set about the task of figuring out what happened to his parents. A task that to the day remains a mystery. It was through the three years of self-teaching himself criminal investigations, forensics and behavioral science that led Cody to join Starfleet (something both his parents had been vocal about independent careers).
Cody eventually bought out the bond in 238010.04 and through a series of deals, was able to buy off the single pilot ship that had been his home more times than not. His next stop was back to the Sol system, back to Mars, and back to his family. It wasn’t until he returned home he learned his parents had been discovered dead in their house in 237507.04. David himself had been listed both as missing and as a suspect.

He also retains ownership of Jennet Trade Securities Corporation, though Deborah Turow runs it.
After a lengthy inquest, and several communications between Starfleet, the Mars Colonies, and the Ferengi, David was able to clear his involvement and set upon the task of solving the circumstances around his parents death. He would not crack the case until four years later while serving on the USS Independence-A. His route took him from studying criminal investigations, forensics, and behavioral science into Starfleet, where his primary interest became Security, due to both his mother’s influence, his life as a trade securty investigator, and his focus to solve his parents’ deaths.

Cody has always been something of a private person, both in his personal thoughts as well as emotions. He lived the life of a free trader for the bulk of his twenties and proved to be adept in behavioral and social psychology. Coupled with his self-education, and encouraged by a Vulcan scholar studying on Mars Colony, he rededicated himself to forensics and criminology.
While his family had been vocal about independent careers, David chose in the end to retain ownership of Jennet Trade Securities Corporation, though his pseudo-adopted sister Deborah Turow (from Betazoid) runs it.

Turow refers to Cody as a “throwback”, but acknowledges he's a damn good intel and securities investigator. He keeps himself in shape as both an avid jogger and swimmer, also prone to cave-diving and mountain climbing. He focuses on the evidence first to provide leads, and investigates.
Starfleet redirected David to Starbase 118, where he would ship out into the Ithassa Region to join the White Ghost, Admiral Anassasi’s crew aboard the USS Independence. Originally as a tactical officer, David’s time there would take from Tactical over to Security, eventually to head up that division before returning to Tactical. He served with the Independence crew aboard DS17 during the Federation-Gorn Conflict in September of 2383 where the New Orleans Class USS Independence was destroyed taking out the flagship under Commander Idril Mar.

The commissioning of the USS Independence-A returned David to ship in the beginning of 2384, where he served as both Tactical and Security Chief up until on a search for a missing science vessel, upon the ship’s return (six months prior from the timeline), Starfleet “reassigned” David for a short duration.

Back with his crew, David currently heads Security while acting as a Marine/Security Lliason. The nature of his brief reassignment is not known at present.

Recreational Activities
Recreational Activities
In his spare time, Cody can often be found developing compounds as well as rebuild broken technology (including modifications). On rare occasion, he will pull out his old guitar and strum. Most of the time he’s out collecting samples for his TED system. He also maintains both a jogging and swimming regine.

Habits
Habits
Cody fell into the habit of carrying a portable science kit. He also has a tendancy to drawl, though he’s been working on getting rid of it.
Cody has been something of a private person, in the beginning adopting Vulcan-like approaches to his emotions during the first fourteen months. He’s known for his crooked smile, although recently more of his personality has re-emerged. He carries with him a slimpadd modification of his, more of a personal computer. Often times he’s been described as blunt and up-front, unless it’s concerning his own feelings.

He’s always been an investigator first, usually focused on the job. He eventually was able to lose his drawl, although it does resurface on occasion.

Tends to internalize his personal thoughts and reflect. But he does move, and when he does, it’s fast
His maintains an open mind on just about every subject, although it’s known that he’s drawn to freckles. He prefers the honest approach, although if it deals with his emotions, he’ll shunt it aside. He enjoys both his personal as well as social time, but the two aren’t mutually inclusive. Protective of his friends and his crew, David’s motto is “Everyone counts. No one is left behind.”

Cody suffers from chronic insomnia, of which requires him to keep a timepiece on him at all times to monitor his waking cycle. He regularly has to show up in Sickbay to have them knock him out for a duration. Recently, he's begun working with Dr. Sidney Riley on finding an alternate solution.
David suffers from chronic insomnia, which was brought on during the two years he wore the control collar while working for the Ferengi by the manipulation of his bio-chemistry to keep him alert, awake and hunting down both people and property. Because he’s known to go days without sleeping, David’s required to keep a timepiece on him at all times to monitor his waking cycle.

His bio-chemical levels were discovered to maintain themselves as such a high level during Sidney Riley‘s tenure as CMO about the USS Independence, there still has not been a solution to how to reverse the process and damage the control collar did to his body.

In the beginning of 2384, David was caught inside biomechanoid’s sphere rescuing one of the ship’s civilians, a Betazoid child. Unfortunately, due to the structure’s imminent collapse, he was left with one option to escape and detonated a phaser against the hull in free fall. David was exposed to space for nearly sixty seconds before the USS Independence-A beamed him directly to Sickbay, where he was under the care of Dr. Minerva Satcher who interfaced with LtCmdr Toni Turner to save his life and rebuild him.

Psychological Profile
Psychological Profile
Cody is a product of his youth. He takes things apart and looks at what he’s given to work with to develop a pattern and method of operation. He’s a workaholic who prefers a good rebuilding project or investigation, with a healthy dose of both practicality and imagination that he applies both in work as well as life. His relationships with the opposite sex are few and far between (though he’ll jokingly refer to potential wives as ‘volunteers’). For now, Cody is married to the work and driven by the unexplained death of his parents.
Bits and pieces come out regarding David’s profile, although his prior studies in psychology make it a difficult to ascertain the complete picture, as well as his tendency to avoid his own personal feelings.

It’s known at the age of sixteen, David and the sister in all but name, Deborah, entered a family bond, as she was going through her final transition. What happened in the cavern beneath the Martian sands is not known during the seven days, but it’s rumored David withstood the onslaught of a T6 coming into her ability.

His earlier years under Captain Nathan are a complete mystery. Absolutely nothing is recorded of his time serving as a crew hand through negotiator aboard the freighter Skiptrace. It is, however, well known David went negotiating with the Ferengi and landed himself in their bond. For the two years he worked with them, the control collar he wore severely damaged his bio-chemistry and drove him into a near permanent insomnia cycle, unable to sleep, which is believed to be the ground zero point where he dismissed his emotions to adopt an expressionless, non-emotional outlook.

David has dealt with several factors throughout the course of his life, from the experiences of his youth to his adult years and faced with a near impossible task of bringing a conclusion to the circustances of family deaths. He has been always job-focused above family-focused, almost to the extent of being a workaholic.

He likes his victories, but not at the expense of someone else. He has, in every instance, gone out of his way to help and protect both his friends, his crew. His relationships have always been far and few between, his romantic interests rarely acted on. It’s known he’s jokingly referred to his prior relationships as “volunteers”, but reviewing what’s known about both his past and present, it can be determined David Cody is working toward something.

Whether it’s some kind of redemption, or a man in search of himself, David still remains a bit of an enigma.

Telepathic Status
Telepathic Status
None himself. It was revealed that he does allow Turow (Turow'endial, a Betazed) to share a bonding that was made in their teen years back at Mars Colony.
None himself, but he likes to get himself tested every now and again. He has been referred to as “telepathic as a rock”.
