He was CMO and later First Officer of the ''USS Copernicus'', but much preferred his medical duties over his command ones. In 2397 the ''Copernicus'' was on an exploratory mission to an uncharted sector in the Alpha Quadrant, where the away team encountered a strange and deadly new virus. Despite his best efforts, he couldn't synthesize a cure and the virus proved fatal. The ''Copernicus'' was able to slipsteam to Trill in order for Rodan to given to the next Host, and Jareth had time to speak to Maz - the next Host - and give him some of his famous grandfatherly advice before he died.
