She returned to Vulcan at age 12 to do her kahs-wan, usually done at age eleven, her father had to convince the elders that her El Aurien blood made her just as worthy to go through the ritual. Her father disappeared during this attempt under mysterious circumstances, and Meidra has never gotten over it.
 Her mother spent the next several years taking her children to different worlds, encouraging them to learn as many languages and customs as they could, making it a competition. Meidra is fluent in 10 languages, and passable in many more. She sometimes switches between languages when she is nervous, or angry.
