Princess Alyhra Rao is, along with her nephew, the only surviving member of the House of Rao, formerly one of the Seven Great Clans of the Phraatian Empire on El-Auria. While her world is gone, Alyhra continues to live as close to her old life as possible in the village of Villebernier in France on Earth. She maintains a small but dedicated household in a foreboding old chateau, spending her days arranging flowers and photographs. Distant, eccentric and austere, Princess Alyhra never became a motherly figure to Kionn but they have stayed in regular contact and each view each other as the last connection to their now fallen family. Kionn visited her in Villebernier the night before he left for the Veritas. Alyhra gave Kionn several photographs to bring with him to the Veritas, including one of her and one of her father, whom she believes Kionn resembles.<ref>[https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/sb118-veritas/_zl75Vj2y44 ''"Le Temps des Fleurs."''], Ens. Captain Danielle d'Arpajon is the woman responsible for Kionn's liberation from the Borg Collective, along with the rest of the crew of the USS Sojourner. She in particular took a vested interest in the former drone's development as he was the only one to survive the initial de-assimilation process and it was under her tutelage and guidance that Kionn was able to build a new life, an entirely new personality, for himself. It was she who wrote Kionn's recommendation to Starfleet Academy though she did so with reservations, fearing that she might be railroading the young man into a career with the people he doubtlessly considered himself indebted to. But Captain Arpajon also knew that Starfleet would be one of the few places where a former drone could thrive free of the discrimination others of his kind faced. With the Sojourner assigned to more domestic assignments after their five year survey of the Beta Quadrant, she was able to keep an eye on Kionn's continuing development at the Academy. While she might have relinquished some of the mother-like role she had assumed to Alyhra, Captain Arpajon continued her deep involvement in Kionn's life over the years. | |||
