The Kubarey Confederation spans a large number of star systems in the Menthar Corridor, and their territory is estimated to be roughly equal in size to that of the Tholians and the Breen. The name and location of their home system is, as yet, unknown to the Federation.

Known to be located at the edges of Kubarey territory, this system houses a temple retreat and was the site of their [[The_Kubarey_(Garuda)|official first contact]] with Federation.

[[Image:Ananja_Portrait.png|thumb|250px|[[Ananja]], A Kubarey Female]]The Kubarey bear considerable similarities to many other Alpha Quadrant species; they are sexually diamorphic and humanoid in appearance, almost hairless except for the hair on their head, eyebrows and eyelashes. They also possess a pair of caprine horns that begin to develop shortly after birth, located toward the posterior edge of the frontal bone. The horns of the female tend to be smaller and more compact than the male.

Average life expectancy is approximately 800 years for both males and females, with physical maturity reached between the ages of 30 - 50.  

Kubarey females have the ability to hold an embryo in suspension within their bodies. This happens after fertilisation, when a specific amino acid essential for foetal development is missing from the mother's diet. The modern diet means that this rarely occurs naturally, but is sometimes deliberately triggered by woman separated from their partners, or who have specific obligations to complete (such as an expedition or tour of duty away from home).

The Kubarey are not universally telepathic. The ability has been emerging in the population over recent generations, and there is considerable discussion over the appropriate way to deal with telepathic individuals. Currently, all telepaths are tested and registered, with restrictions placed upon how, when and where they may use their abilities.

Kubarey goverment is a tetracameral in organisation, with four parliamentary chambers and a head of state with executive powers.

All Kubarey aspire to live their lives according to the Four Virtues: wisdom, courage, duty and beauty. The interpretation of the virtues is often heavily dependant on which Prakarna the individual belongs to.

Kubarey society revolves around an endogamous, hereditary caste system, which stratifies their population into specific groups with specific roles. While it is possible to move between groups, through adoption or marriage, such social movement is rare and was illegal for much of history.

The leader of the Darsvana is the Vidyadenai, a term which translates loosely to "most wise and holy". He or she attains the position by vote and it is held for the rest of their life. They must have education and experience in the priesthood and at least one scientific or medical discipline. The Vidyadenai is attended to by the Kharanavala, who is an attendant and advisor who supports the Vidyadenai in his duties.

Almost all Kubarey have a first name, at least one middle name and a family name. Their first name is entirely the selection of the child's family; it can be a virtue they hope their child will embody, the name of a favoured close relative or friend, or simply a name found pleasing.  

The middle names are chosen by priests at the child's naming ceremony, usually conducted within the first year of birth. The names can include honoured ancestors, lesser deities, and notable historical figures. The belief is that the spirits of these individuals will watch over and guide the child through life.

Kubarey marry in pairs, with the lower status partner taking the surname of the higher status one. In rare cases, such as when the two individuals are virtually equal in status, each partner may keep their family name, or they may choose a new one to share for their marriage.

As a result of their lengthy lifespan, it is rare to have more than one child in a home at any given time, and children are considered legal adults at the age of 75.  

Kubarey of both genders favour robes. The styling of the robes varies over time due to the vagaries of fashion, and an individual's Prakarna often plays into their clothing choices. For example, Vala often favour split robes in shades of grey and black, with leggings or trousers underneath, cut above the ankle and involving ornamental armour plates. Darsvana may choose longer, loser robes in sombre colours with subtle, decorative embroidery. Sainka might opt for bright, flowing robes with large prints, and the Kamagara wear practical robing in plain, earthen colours.

The Kubarey follow a polytheistic belief system, and each deity has its own religion, texts and rites. In the past, the differences between the texts of the different religions have been a source of social conflict and war.

Little is currently know about the full capabilities of Kubarey technology. What little intelligence has been gathered indicates that it is at least on a par with the major powers of the Alpha Quadrant, including the Federation. In some aspects, it may be considerably more advanced.

The specific details of Kubarey economics are not known, except that they are entirely self-sufficient and do not trade outside of their own territory and people.

The full extent and capabilities of the Kubarey military are not currently known, and only one warship has been encountered -- the ''Heart of Vahasamara'', which was able to disable the [[USS Garuda]] within [http://sims.starbase118.net/posts/1848585?sid=55660c2d83b0e&p=15 ninety-nine seconds]. Given that an entire segment of Kubarey society is devoted to martial professions, it deemed likely they maintain an extensive military force.
