Named after a soldier of fortune from old earth history.  a capra, the Chimera class was a Federation Heavy destroyer starship in Starfleet service during the early 25th century. In 2409 Starfleet Corps of Engineers (SCE) had been working on a special new destroyer class starship, designed for high-level combat situations. The project was so secret that access to the Utopia Planitia shipyard was restricted for months while the project was completed.
Named after a soldier of fortune, Kazimierz Pułaski from old earth history. He served with the Continental Army and is considered the father to the old United States cavalry. He died in the the service during the American revolution, and was given honorary  citizenship to the United States of America. When the heavy destroyer was commissioned it was only fitting that his name be attached to such a fine vessel.
 
The Chimera Heavy Destroyer is similar to an Escort, but has many qualities of Light Cruisers and Science Vessels. While in its innate Regenerative Mode, excess power is transferred to the Auxiliary System and Starship Shield Systems. It is equipped with a prototype Dynamic Tactical System or DTS). This system allows the Chimera to transform between Regenerative Mode and Tactical Mode. In Regenerative Mode, the Tachyon Inversion Beam is enabled, which can siphon shields from multiple targets. Activating Tactical Mode transfers additional power to Weapon Systems. In Tactical Mode, the DTS enables a powerful multi-targeting Lotus, which is capable of piercing multiple targets. However, while in Tactical Mode, the Starship Shield Systems, Auxiliary Power are weakened and the Tachyon Inversion Beam is disabled.
