 Shortly thereafter Saveron resigned his Starfleet commission for personal reasons and returned to Vulcan. It was over one Terran year later that Saveron began looking for a posting amongst the stars again and Captain Kells offered him a civilian posting aboard the Mercury once more.

-An exploratory mission turned First Contact event when the Away Team on an asteroid with high levels of Dilithium turned out to be inhabited, Saveron's primary role was patching up the wounded when the inhabitant's main weapon proved to be psychological, and drove much of the Away Team temporarily mad.

-Heading deeper into the Menthar Corridor, Captain [[Rhul,_Tallis|Tallis Rhul]] reveals that in addition to their primary mission of exploration, the USS Mercury is also under orders from Starfleet Intelligence to undertake secret reconnaisence of Cardassian resources and military, using the ship's advanced sensor pod. Commander [[Parker,Hannibal|Hannibal Parker]] and Commander [[Walker,_Tobias|Tobias Walker]] advocate expanding the Mercury's paultry offensive capabilities in case of attack. Saveron pointed out that to do so could make the Mercury appear as a greater threat, one that the Cardassians would feel they had to answer, and that if their spy mission was revealed, it could well trigger interstellar war. This led to a heated discussion with Saveron and Parker rapidly polarising to opposite sides of the debate, which the two in fact felt compelled to continue in the corridor. No agreement was reached, and it seemed to mark the beginning of sour relations between the pacifist and the warrior.
-Later that morning Saveron spoke with Lieutenant [[Blake,_Skyleena|Skyleena Blake]] about her medication use during her pregnancy, endeavouring to get to the bottom of her apparent levels of stress and depression. The suddeness of her condition and her promotion appeared to have overwhelmed her somewhat, and he offered to mentor her both as a department head and as a parent, as he had experience with both. Later in the day he compared medical notes with Doctor [[Ba'Eli]] who had transferred to the Science Department.
-The real interest began however when the Mercury detected a small craft in the area, slowing down despite their being no obvious destination. That is, until a space station decloaked. Captain Tallis negotiated access for them to the [[Menthar Anchorage]], and Saveron was quick to join the Away Team.
