The Skarn Homeworld is Class L rogue planet near the outermost boundaries of the Briar Patch. Due to the presence non-baryonic matter throughout the Briar Patch, the surface of the planet contains pockets of variable gravity. Furthermore, due to radiation from the stellar remnants within the Patch, sensors are capabilities. It may have once been locked into the orbit of a star within the past, but this is uncomfirmed. It is the homeworld as a non-corporeal and telekinetic species, the Skarn- and a creature known as 'Baab' to the Skarn. It was visited by the crew of the USS Resolution in 2398 searching for a missing Federationsurvey ship and two Romulan counterparts.

Biosphere

Though nominally Class-L, the surface of the Skarn Homeworld is rather treacherous for most humanoid life. Areas of variable gravity thanks to the presence on non-baryonic matter (aka: dark matter), a lack of large bodies of water and plant life mean that most species in the galaxy would not be able to live on its surface. The surface was covered with various deep canyons- one of which the USS Resolution crash-landed in. There was also at least one system with water present- this seemed to be the home of the Skarn.

Native Species

The Skarn are the main inhabitants of this planet. It is unknown if they called the planet by a name. They are a non-corporeal, telepathic and telekinetic species who inhabit a cave near what is now the crash site of the Federation survey ship the Hanno. Skarn communicate telepathically, although their abilities can have deleterious effects on some humanoid species such as Bajorans, Vulcans and El-Aurians. They are also capable of manipulating rocks and boulders to form crude approximations of humanoid life. While the exact nature of their hierarchy is unknown, there was a leader. Until 2398, this was a Skarn known as Arbelo. Skarn are also capable to transforming humanoid life into fellow Skarns, although this occurs rarely and expends a great deal of their telepathic and telekinetic energy. They transformed an elderly Romulan into one of their own so he could live out his days with them. The crew of the USS Resolution were not aware of this capability.

Skarn apparently lived in fear of 'Baab'- a creature of indeterminate appearance- who apparently lived in the deepest recesses of a cave. Arbelo was known to be able to communicate with Baab and had periodically fed people to it in order to charge stones with psychokinetic resonance that were the source of their power. After the Skarn cave is destroyed by the escaping crew of the USS Resolution and the survivors of the three crashed vessesls- Baab's and Abel's statuses are unknown as of July 2399.
