Rylans are perhaps one of the oldest species in the Par'tha Expanse, records and documents dating back almost 40,000 years. For the most part, evolution on their homeworld proceeded peacefully and naturally. The pursuit of knowledge and beauty was a driving force behind their civilization. They excelled in the realms of artistic endeavors, philosophy, architecture, and science. It was only once they reached to the stars roughly 6,000 years ago that discord and unrest reached their civilization, because it was then that they encountered the Caraadians. This was during the Dynastic Era, and Kaen Tan was uniting the Houses. The Rylan world of Elbannon was placed under the rule of House Lanaxa, and subjugated.
Over the course of time, however, the Rylans became less subservient and more on equal footing. Due to their location, they have never really been involved with the politics of the Expanse. Although they keep mostly to themselves, they are a rare sight within the Par'tha Expanse from time to time. The Rylans are much more prone to spend their time in the Freeworlds Region than in the racially centered Expanse Sector.
The Rylans are easily on par with the Federation, in all aspects, and in some instances they have surpassed them. They have created, maintained, and continued to support a sizeable stellar navy. Within the last hundred years or so, a movement has begun on Elbannon geared towards peaceful exploration and expansion, and inclusion within the activities of their Expanse neighbors.
Physically, Rylans are virtually identical to Humans. They are mammals that stand about 1.5 to 2 meters tall. Like most other humanoid species they have four limbs (two legs, two arms). Their skin color ranges from pinkish to dark brown, with many variations in between. Distinguishing them from Humans is the bare tops of their heads, their hair only appearing around the sides and back. Hair color ranges from white to silver, even in the youngest Rylans.
