Lucy was assigned to the USS Drake as a young operations officer, and worked primarily as a transporter operator -- and her way to lieutenant, junior lieutenant by performing excellent work and keeping her transporter in the best shape of the ship's available machines. Since the encounter with the Ring, however, she has served primarily as a communications specialist, hoping to forestall any crises of understanding in the vein of the Ring.
