Ion blasters, or ionization blasters, are any weapons that fire ion energy instead of laser bolts. They are commonly used in response to rolfs and other technology on the battlefield.
An ion blaster bolt disrupts electrical systems, destroying circuits and effectively rendering any kind of technology useless. Most ion weapons do little damage to organic enemies, though the more powerful cannons could seriously injure or kill a living creature due to the power of the blast.
Ion weapons range from small personal blasters to large rifles for heavy duty combat against rolfs to massive starship mounted weapons capable of disabling an enemy ship without causing damage to it. Many starfighters carry ion weaponry for boarding operations where capturing a target is the primary objective. Ion Pulse missiles with Ion warheads can also be used as they are more powerful than ion cannons and are guaranteed to hit the target due to their advanced guidance systems.
