|'''Zaraleek-Om, Childhood friend, traveler, unrequited love'''<br><hr>Zaraleek-Om is the great-grandson of Aurelia's late renowned Historian Loom Aleek-Om. He's about a year older than Dekas. They met through their mothers being well-known historians within their respective flocks, and good friends as a result. Zaraleek became Dekas' best friend that wasn't a related family member. At about 12 & 13 years old, they did stop seeing each other in person as frequently due to other life things and distance but kept in pretty good contact. They were both present for each other's adulthood ceremonies. It's unsure when, but Dekas gained romantic feelings for Zara and considered courting him. But Zara, despite being kind and compassionate and smart and everything that Dekas adored, was also a huge free spirit. Not to be tethered or tied down. Which kept Dekas from pursuing it. (Zara went off-world to study medicine, before shifting to psychology. He's especially good with children, teens, parents, and surprisingly Vulcans. All as a civilian, and not in Starfleet. He studied at and graduated from a Vulcan school. Primarily his experience is on Vulcan ships of one type or another, but he has worked on a base for at least one year to expand his education more into family and child psychology of the various races he'd be likely to encounter. Working so heavily with Vulcans has led him to be more "logical" in his manner, but he's never lost his Aurelian compassion streak.) It all made Dekas put his focus back on Starfleet. During Dekas' LOA, he was back home for a little while. And Dekas did consider it again before realizing that Zara only stayed longer to help with Dekas' medical issue. Zara is wonderful, and Dekas loves him deeply for all that he is. But Zara is also emotionally unavailable in very specific ways. His only commitments are knowledge, experience, passion, and helping others. Committed to his own freedom in a way. It's something that Dekas respects, as he believes it would be cruel to expect Zara to do anything that would dim his light. Zaraleek has unintentionally toyed with his feelings. He's always been very back and forth with him and has tendencies to cut him off without warning and then act like it's fine when they see each other again, only to cut him off again for reasons that Dekas cannot figure out. It hurts. They agreed to stay in better contact since that LOA, however, and Dekas plans to make good on the promise as he just wants him in his life. He's mostly accepted things for what they are for now. He prefers to focus on things in his present situations and relationships. But there are unrequited, unresolved feelings about Zaraleek-Om nonetheless.
