Selected History

Born in the year 2241, David Whale grew up in Scotland as the only child of a university history professor (Dr. Robert Whale) and the directory of a charity organization (Rebecca Whale). Enrolling in Starfleet Academy in 2259 and graduating in 2263, Whale was posted aboard the USS Ackerman. By 2266 Whale had attained the rank of Lieutenant and served the Ackerman's chief of security. In 2269, while responding to a distress call from a civilian freighter, the USS Ackerman was lost with all hands after an encounter with a spatial anomaly.

In 2379, the Ackerman re-emerged from what has since been determined to be a temporal anomaly. There were only three survivours -- including David Whale. Biologically, David Whale will be 34 years old upon his second graduation from Starfleet Academy, assuming he does complete his current Academy curriculum. In terms of actual years since his birth, he will be 144 years old.

Due to the difference in eras, Whale was required to re-enroll in the Academy in order to continue with a career in Starfleet. Given that no time passed for him while trapped in the anomaly, he was not happy about giving up his hard-earned rank and counselors at the Academy have reported that Whale frequently feels himself to be better than his classmates due to his previous experience. Though Whale was a very good Academy student in the 23rd Century, his performance currently is rather middling, possibly due to a feeling that his re-entry into the Academy was uneccessary and "forced upon him." Academy counselors have recommended that regular visits to the nearest available counselor be made a requirement of any Starfleet duty placement for David Whale. It is believed that Whale chose to re-enter Starfleet Academy because he sees Starfleet as the only connection that remains from his earlier life. It is also felt that the loss of, essentially, his entire world combined with what Whale may see as an unwarranted reduction in his Starfleet status may have long-term psychological effects that have yet to be observed.
