SB118Ops Mission Logs/Sal Taybrim/Dish Served Cold
With Captain Leo Handley-Page still onboard the roster but called away to tend to the monstrous transformations that afflicted his sister and best friends, Commander Sal Taybrim stepped up to Starfleet's call when the Cheyenne class USS Stormcrow went missing.
The Stormcrow's Captain Haz Arrhimen swore revenge against the Romulans after finding out that Romulan terrorists attacked the Federation freighter SS Annabelle's Lament - destroying the vessel and killing all 102 passengers and crew onboard including Arrhimen's brother. Haz Arrhimen is headed to the Valdis system, a Romulan colony near the border of Federation space. He's refusing to answer hails and looks intent on committing an act of war.
Acting Captain Sal Taybrim launches the USS Albion with new crewmates Lieutenant Theo Whittaker and Lieutenant Tatash joining the Ops crew. The Albion speeds towards the Valdis colony so they can arrive before the Stormcrow and hopefully talk sense into Arrhimen. However on the way there Arrhimen makes his intentions clear when he attacks the fast frigate USS Tribal, leaving her dead in the water for standing in his way. The Albion launches several shuttlecraft with a marine detail, medical rescue team and security personnel for aid.
The Albion reached the Valdis colony shortly before the Stormcrow, but they were ambushed in their search when the Stormcrow hit them under cover of the nearby Valdis nebula. The two ships engaged in a vicious firefight which led to the crippling of the Stormcrow, and major damage to the Albion. The majority of the Stormcrow's skeleton crew launched on life boats which were intercepted by the Albion crew, but over a dozen crew were left onboard. The Albion sent a search and rescue party to the Stormcrow, to retrieve injured crew and retrieve information from the Stormcrows computer banks before the ship's life support completely failed; but they found that the Romulans were equally interested in plundering the Stormcrow as a Romulan warbird decloaked, demanding salvage and Haz Arrhimen be delivered to them.
Security teams on the Albion were successful in rescuing the rest of the survivors, but when they tried to access the computer core they set off a trap that Captain Arrhimen set in the core system, trigging a self destruct. In the end the Albion only gleaned a small amount of what secrets Arrhimen may have held. Onboard the Albion the survivors were kept in the brig but Haz Arrhimen demanded to speak to the Albion's Commanding officer. When Taybrim agreed to meet with him, Arrhimen uncovered that he wasn't going to attack the Valdis colony with phasers and torpedos; but with a biochemical agent that was already released on the planet. In his madness, Arrhimen said that the entire crew of the Albion would be infected and die as well; but the Albion's medical officers quickly disproved this finding that his bioweapon was only effective against copper blooded species in general and Romulans in particular.
Unfortunately allowing Arrhimen out of a secured brig environment combined with the damage the Albion had sustained left him open to be scanned and transported away. Seconds after he beamed out the Romulan warbird cloaked and left the area. It was unclear whether Arrhimen was captured by the Romulans or had some plan up his sleeves to flee them; though the official report leans towards the former.
The rest of Arrhimen's crew were secured; his chief science officer among them. She agreed to give over the genetic and biochemical sequences of the bio weapon in exchange for clemency. The Albion was able to synthesize an antidote to the weapon used against the Valdis colony and offered both the antidote and the formula for synthesizing more to the planetary governor; thus preventing an act of war.
The Albion met up with the USS Tribal, retrieved all teams and offered full medical aid to all Starfleet officers and in turn both ships were escorted back to SB118 by the USS Avalon.
