Jan 7, 2006Get involved in a Guild! (Betazoids, Vulcans, Trills, Readers, more...)
Hello friends! It seems that many of you are unaware that we have discussion areas for those interested in various in character aspects of our game, so I wanted to make sure you were fully aware of some of the neat things we have going on in this realm. Guilds serve the purpose of bringing together people who share common in character interests, and we already have a number of them at the moment, with one more possible! So let me take a few minutes to introduce them. (More information on how to join is at the bottom of this e-mail.) GUILDS - Readers Guild: This guild caters entirely to characters who are telepathic or empathic. We have some great discussion going on right now about the creation of new, non-canon reading races, as well as the creation of some in character reader institutions like "SCEPTRE" -- a mysterious all-telepath alliance! - Guild of Vulcans: Is your character a Vulcan, or Vulcan-hybrid? Help us flesh-out the world of the Vulcans and create a more in depth Vulcan profile on our Intelligent Lifeform Index. Anyone who is interested in Vulcan culture, or in helping bring the Vulcan persona to light should take a look. - Guild of Trills: Perhaps one of the most complex races in Trek, the Trills are a wealth of interesting plot discussion. The Guild of Trills seeks to help make it easier to play a Trill, and also to discuss symbiosis. Join them if you're interested in Trill culture! - Guild of El-Aurians: Mysterious and rare, El-Aurians are called the "listeners." This guild discusses the race more in depth and tries to bring a diverse understanding of these characters to make it easier for those who are interested in playing them. - Guild of Betazoids: *NEW!* We're looking for some folks to help start a Guild of Betazoids. Betazoids are the second most populous race among our characters in this group, so we want to create more materials about them. If you're interested in Betazoids and want to help start the guild join us soon! - Lambda Alliance: For all gay, lesbian, bisexual, neuter, or transgendered characters, the Lambda Alliance is home. We have some great discussions on GLBT culture in the present, and in the future. JOINING A GUILD To join a guild, you can head to our guild headquarters on the forums, or head to the guild area on our website. My apologies for this, but due to an error on my part, the Steadfast awards were not included in the list that was sent out. They should be as follows: - Cmdr. T'Pen (TOSMA I, Neelix Award, Strange Medallion) - Lt. Cmdr. Samal Frazier (TOSMA II) Congratulations to them both! Jan 11, 2006EC - Great Bird Award
The Great Bird Award This award is the highest honor given to any officer, and as of yet none have been awarded it in the history of the group. It is given to an officer who helps develop and/or invents a new way of simming, a new way of thinking, or a new way of looking at the Star Trek universe. Only given once per ceremony. As we enter into our 12th year as an online club devoted to star trek, community, writing, and role playing it fitting that we finally issue our first great bird award. The Executive Council hereby awards to Fleet Admiral Wolf the Great Bird Award, 2383.01.11 . Admiral Wolf's achievement within UFOP are so frequent that like air they are taken for granted. Ideas that he has brought to the fleet quickly become `the way we have always done things. Admiral Wolf founded 1994. To create an online game is perhaps no great idea. To create a club with all the infrastructure that goes with creating a club takes time, effort, and most of all Vision. Training the first major overhaul of training was laid out by Admiral Wolf and R. Admiral marlin in 2000. Since then it has been perfected by others but it follows the original guide lines they laid down. UPDS Yes there was a time before we conveniently kept track of members, characters, ships, training, requests, and award ceremonies in one online data base. Previous everything was tracked individually using excel spread sheets, word documents, and stored email. UFOP Forums Chat boards are nothing new. The Forums however replaced our chat boards and lead directly to the involvement of many junior members in UFOP administration. Not only are their forum moderators but areas to discuss UFOP and forms. WIKI Still new to the club, this feature is impacting the way we store information for our collective universe in a dramatic way and our approach to Ship Web Sites. Already it is so popular the EC created a special award (Sarpeidon) for it. Like UPDS it encourages the sense of community. Updated Website Web sites are a standard feature to the online world. In 2004-2005 UFOPs was updated with a sleeker more modern design. IDIC Infinite Diversity Infinite Combination This is what I am calling Wolf's dramatic stand on UFOPs inclusive nature. As a Commander I knew a Captain who threatened to quit if a homosexual simmed a relationship on their vessel. Today because of Wolf's leadership on the issue we have clear standards of acceptance. This standard is not limited to sexuality but includes the full range of diversity.
Over the years he has devoted time, money, effort and most importantly creativity to UFOP. We can only hope he devotes another 12 years to this club. The EC salutes you Admiral Wolf. Rear Admiral Anassasi Captain Avatar Fleet Captain Hebron Vice Admiral Hollis Jan 13, 2006"USS Courage" Poaching
Hello faithful fantasy fans! Wanted to notify everyone that we've got a "poacher" in our midst. These are folks who steal e-mail addresses from us in whatever way they can so that they can invite you to other Yahoo! Groups, SIM clubs, or whatnot. We would never presume to have any control over where our members SIM outside our group, but we certainly don't appreciate anyone bugging our members when they don't want solicitations. Please be aware that we take every precaution available to us to keep your e-mail addresses safe and under-wraps. If you're as angry as I am that someone would use your e-mail address for nefarious purposes, and you have received an invitation from the Courage, you should use Yahoo!'s abuse center to report the offender. That link is here: http://add.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/groups/cgi_abuse Check the original e-mail you received from the Courage to find the sender's Yahoo! ID. The address for their group is, per the request by the abuse form: http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/USSCourage/ If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact me directly at t.wolf@... I am dedicated to ensuring the security and privacy of your e-mail addresses, and hope that everyone in our community feels the same way. Jun 4, 2006Forums Back Online
Due to a hacking earlier this morning, we were forced to upgrade our boards. In the process, we have temporarily lost the use of our "SpacePilot" (blue-starry) theme that we are so fond of. Nonetheless: THE FORUMS ARE BACK ONLINE! At the moment, we are currently soliciting assistance from a professional Invision Power Board theme developer to get the theme back online. In the meantime, please use the default board theme to get acquainted with some of the new features of our boards, and our blogs! I think you'll find some neat new stuff. And if you haven't taken the time to set up a character blog, what are you waiting for? This is a great way to develop your character! Jun 16, 2006Launching Publicity Campaign

When a sim is submitted, it must not be more than 150 days old. Remember, we're not looking for the best sims of "all time;" we're looking for the best sims from the past month or so! Don't be afraid to submit a few of your best sims from the past few weeks. Anything good can compete! After all, you don't want to be embarassed when your crew doesn't submit anything, right? Hey Trek fans! It's the holiday season, and if there's one thing everyone can count on, it's the fact that you have to shop for gifts. Howabout killing two birds with one stone this year? Avoid long lines at the mall AND help your favorite role playing game earn money towards keeping its website online! That's right, you can earn our group some nice change that we can use to keep our site alive and kicking just by ordering the things you already plan to shop for online at Amazon! United States, Canadian, and yes even United Kingdom residents can shop at our Amazon stores! Here's how it works: just head to one of the storefronts (links provided below), and use the area to shop for the gifts you're planning on buying. Add them to your shopping cart and check out. Voila -- you're done! Your stuff gets delivered to you, or you can deliver it straight to your recipient, gift-wrapped and all. Meanwhile, Amazon gnomes count up how much you bought and reward UFOP: StarBase 118 Star Trek RPG for bringing customers to them. How sweet is that? So help us out this year and do your shopping online. It'll save you a lot of time out at the stores -- time you can spend simming, right? - Amazon.com (U.S. shoppers): http://www.starbase118.net/members/shop/amazon-us/ - Amazon.ca (Canadian shoppers): http://www.starbase118.net/members/shop/amazon-ca/ - Amazon.co.uk (U.K. shoppers): http://www.starbase118.net/members/shop/amazon-uk/ Nov 26, 2006Awards Ceremony 2006 - Nominations Open!
