Detailed History
Prologue
Akio Ryan met Umina on the sands of Bondi Beach. They became very close quickly and began a love affair that would last for just short of two years. Umina never told Akio, or anyone else on Earth that she was El-Aurian. The only reason Akio knew something was different about her is due to her pregnancy. It last longer than is normal for a human female. Umina stayed for only a few short months after Denji was born. She left suddenly and without warning. Akio was left to raise their child alone.
Childhood
Denji grew up in the 'Ryan Cafe' on the beaches of Sydney, Australia. There residence was on the second story of the cafe. Denji was the top student in every grade throughout school. His active listening skills combined with his eidetic memory proved usefull throughout his entire education. His father was always there for him, however, Denji was somewhat treated as the cafe's child. He was often looked after, supported, and encouraged by employees and regular customers.
Adolescence
Denji's adolescence was one that many people would dream of having. Just like in his childhood, school and education came very easy for him. During this time his was not top of class, but definitely an above average student. The slip in standings was due in large part to missing classes often for training and travelling. However, Denji also skipped class to spend his time at the beaches and circuit parties. It was also during this time that Denji began experimenting with music, sound, and DJ'ing. During this time, as in childhood, Denji found himself always eavesdropping on conversations, people watching, and more often listening, rather than speaking. It was this preoccupation with people and stories that lead him into studying psychology.
Young Adulthood
Denji's academic talents allowed him to continue to live mostly a beach-bum type of life even during his time at the University of New South Wales where he majored in Psychology. During the last year of his undergraduate degree a series of homicides across Australian beaches gripped the attention of the sector. Denji was asked by a professor at the school working on the case to assist him because of his connections and knowledge of beach culture. He was a big help and eventually the killer was apprehended. That professor convinced him to complete a master's degree at the University in Forensic Psychology.
Major Discovery
Near the time of Denji's 20th birthday, his father revealed the truth that his mother was an El-Aurian. While this came as a great shock to Denji, it also helped to explain some of his talents and why he seemed to be physiologically younger than his peers. Up until this time he was content with his life on Earth and had fully intended on continuing to travel the globe and enjoy the worlds diverse beaches and oceans. However, upon this discovery, Denji found his eyes constantly drifting from the waters up to the stars. Shortly there after, he was accepted into Starfleet.
Academy Days
With the move from Sydney to San Fransico, Denji moved from the Australian coast to the American Pacific coast. He was able to continue to live the kind of life he was accustomed to, although, he was a much more driven student than before. He focused on his studies and was top of class often. However, because of his speech patterns, philosophies, passions, and carriage he was often seen as an underachiever and unintelligent - despite his grades and academic record. However, in the end his teachers and peers grew to appreciate his simplicity and understood his brilliance.
