Tarrik is a Rodulan that grew up to be raised among Ferengi on a station in the Khosla system. A longtime fan of the UFP Tarrik has joined, if you ask him, to work on warp drives and to get to play with the Federation's many incredible toys and tech.
He doesn't realize that deep down he no longer feels at home among Ferengi as in spite of being immersed in their culture from birth he is trying to find somewhere that he does fit. He also isn't introspective enough to realize that he's trying to explore new visions of ethics and values not present in Ferengi capitalism, an attempt to flesh out his own personal beliefs and ethics.
The story of Tarrik is intended to be a coming of age tale about a young man discovering who he really is, what he really believes, and what kind of person he will become on strange, new worlds with a backdrop of ancestors who have left very impressive, and therefore difficult, legacies for him to follow.

- 2375 Tarrik Nol'Gylar is born to Eluana Gylar and Thorus Noldo on Tutatuband Station. A few months later his parents sacrificed their lives for him. Tarrik is adopted by Prax & Norina Tarkin to be raised as Ferengi
- 2394 Tarrik changes his name to 'Tarrik Nol'Gylar Tarkin'
- 2396 Tarrik enrolls in the Starfleet Academy Preparatory Program and achieves high marks. He applies for Starfleet Academy but is declined because his personal essay shows admiration for his fathers space piracy deemed inconsistent with Starfleet Officer values
- 2397 Tarrik reapplies for Starfleet and is accepted to Starfleet Academy 118 when his personal essay shows a deep understanding and personal incorporation of Starfleet ethics and utilizes the feedback he was given before. In doing so he forgoes a scholarship and the bad financial decision shames the Tarkin family, straining their relationship
- 2398 Tarrik makes a mistake and crashes a shuttle in Piloting 101. The following semester he breaks his arm in Unarmed Combat class
- 2399 Tarrik is disciplined for using a Starfleet Academy transporter to reflavor chewing gum
- 2400 The Tarkin family rises to a position of local prominence and wealth in Tutatuband Station. Their relationship with Tarrik remains difficult
- 2401 Tarrik's shuttle crashes from a malfunction while retaking Pilot 101, he is not at fault but it shakes his confidence. He graduates Starfleet Academy
