In order to explain better who Commander John E. Stone is to Cmdr Cura Assanti, one would have to dive back into both their past, which isn't mentioned in Cmdr John Stone's profile linked above.
When Cmdr Cura Assanti met John Stone aboard teh USS Constitution, she was but a young Ensign fresh from the acdemy. Then Lieutenant Stone had all but rescued her from what the crew of teh Constitution called initiation. For Cura it was being dunked in a dunk tank in icy cold water ini her dress white uniform by her superiors. Then Lieutenant Sotoe rescued her from the dunk tant and carrie dher supping wet all the way back to her quarterters. Yet to be quite honest they had met before tht.
In a holodeck aboard Starbase 118, Ensign Cura Assanti had started a fensing program too practice what her father had taught to her. Lt. Stone had barged into this program and the two sparred, not really knowing one another very well. After the dunk Tak rescue, Cura and Jon became casual friends.
It wasn't until the R and R visit to what became known as the Camping planet that Cura and John's relationship began to flourish into something deeper.
One thing Lt. Stone had always warned Cura about was his professionalismn. He was so into the rules and regulations of Star Fleet that he seldom smiled or gave any impression that he was havinig god time. Thus he had gotten the nickname "Stone Cold" After their adventues on the camping planet where Stone actually saved her life from falling while they had gone mountain climbing, Cura had foundit challenge to melt some of his "ice-cole" exteior away.
After many dates and missions toether, they were soon knee deep in a love affair. It ws after Cura's Lt. Cmdr's test on the mision to CArdassia Prime that John Stone realized he loved her ver much.
The pair had that untouchable chemisty tht is seldom attained in most relationships. It was as if they both knew one aother thoughts so well that evefrytime they were together it ws art in motion.. Their love was not to last, however. Time circumstances and SFI tore them apart forever...
They pair did marry but it only lasted a few good years. Yet out of their union a baby boy came into the universe, John Jr....
