As a result, while she has full mobility of her neck to turn her head to her right, she is only able to turn her head about fifteen degrees to the left. Also, her voice is somewhat weak and she can rarely raise her voice above a normal speaking volume without experiencing pain.

Backstory
Born in the Northern Wastes of Andoria, Threll was always the outcast growing up. She had few friends as a child and never quite seemed to get along with her siblings, despite what she considers heroic efforts on her part. The near-constant bickering with her brothers, sisters and parents made her decision to leave Andoria for Starfleet Academy that much easier for the young woman, but created even more tension within her family -- no one in her bloodline had ever served in Starfleet whereas the family has a very long history of service in the Andorian Navy. The family tends to view Threll's decision to join Starfleet as a form of treason.
At the age of thirteen, Threll was in a very serious shuttle accident from which she very enarly did not emerge alive. While a passenger on a short-range shuttle skimming the mountains of Andoria, a sudden storm buffetted the small craft, causing it to crash. As the vessel smashed into the mountainside, debris ripped through the passenger compartment and one piece sliced into Threll's throat. If not for the quick work of a Tellarite scientist on board, who cauterized the wound and performed an emergency traecheotomy, Threll would not have survived. She still bears the scar from her wound and refuses all offers of having it removed via dermal regeneration.
A prime source of Threll's current conflict with her family -- as well as a major factor in her decision to leave Andoria for Starfleet -- is her dislike of the role zhen are expected to play in Andorian society. There was a general perception, among Threll's family at least, that it was the duty of every zhen to begin carrying young as early as possible. Though Threll has not entirely ruled out having children, it is not something she has any interest in presently, nor does she have any desire to do so out of obligation.
