Kan'da'harian
The Kan'da'harian home world of Kan'da'har I is in the Trinity Sector of space.
History
Klingon contact
After the Klingons discovered this world they contacted the natives. Attempts were made to turn the native population into an effective work force. It was soon determined that they would be useless. Their religion with all it's strange rules, customs and practices made it impossible. Regardless of age or sex, any action that threatened their religious beliefs instantly brought out the knives.
Before and after
The Kan'da'har are a strange race. They seem to be 100% stagnant race with no changes being made in their society. Even with their contact with the Klingon race and exposure to off world items and technology they have not changed. Their religion will not allow them to buy or use anything not made by members of their own race. In fact if anyone is found with an off world item they are brought before a religious court. The usual result is death by stoneing.
Documents copied and translated by the Klingon high command confirm that their has been no major and very few minor changes in their society in over 500 years.
Description
They are a humanoid race with a slightly reptilian aspect. They have a long thin forked tongue and tough thick skin that is a mid brown in color. They have a thick eye brow ridge that projects our far over their eye's. They have no body hair. They have 3 fingers and 1 thumb, with slim, wiry bodies that are stronger than they appear.
Males and females appear to be very similar in size and weight. On average they range in height from 5'4" to 5'10" and weight on average between 150 lbs to 180 lbs. They also have no external ears or nose. Only slits that serve the same functions.
Physiology
Birth
The only major differance between males and females is a pouch that the females use to hold their babies after they hatch from their eggs. Tney usually have 2 to 3 babies at a time. These children will spend the first year of their lives after hatching in the pouch. During this time usually only their heads will be poked out and they will grow to be 4 to 6 times as big as when they hatched. Also none of these babies have yet developed into either males or females.
Growth
After the children grow to big for the pouch they spend the next year learning to walk, talk and use simple tools. During this time they will usually grow 4 times bigger than they were. Now at the age of 2 they are about 1/3 their full size and are taken to the priests. It is at this time that they are named and recieve the final ingredient in their development.
This is a special food developed and produced by the priests. It will cause the child to develop into either a male or a female.
Psychology
The Kan'da'har do not seem to suffer from any strange mental problems other than an unreasoning hatred of anyone who does not obey the rules and laws of their religion. This does not include off worlders as the priests of all three tribes have agreed that they have no souls and can not be saved.
Religion
They call them selves the Sons of the Qu'Ran. Religion is the major motivating factor in their day to day lives. It is also the basis for their centuries long warfare with the other tribes. Each tribe interpits their religion in a slightly different manner, a manner the other 2 tribes consider unacceptable. These differences are grounds for violent and deadly outbursts.
Every single law and rule that they have was created and controled by the priests and by their religion. Every aspect of their lives, society and customs is controlled and governed by religion.
Mythology
The predominant myth is that in the beginning after Qu'Ran created life on the planet, he gave the people his laws and rules. However the first man had 3 sons. Each son listened and learned about the rules and the laws. Unfortunately 2 of the boys failed to understand correctly and when they got older they started to pass on the false infomation to the people.
This resulted in the people spliting into 3 tribes, each charged with the elimination of the heretics.
Society
Their society is a stangnant quagmire of religious rules, laws and restrictions that has prevented any major or even most minor changes for over 500 years. It has also resulted in the people becomeing split into 3 major divisions now called tribes.
These 3 tribes all follow the same religion but with slight variations that have resulted in centures of deadly warfare being fought between them. They all live in settled communities on river banks or close to where they can easily drill wells for water.
Culture
While similar the 3 tribes do have different celebrations or methods of celebrating the different major religious holidays.
Customs
Technology
They are a primative race in many ways. They understand the use of irrigation, windmills and crop rotations to keep the earth rich and the breeding of better livestock.
They build with stone and mortar. They can also build multistory buildings up to 3 stories in height. They can build taller buildings which are towers that rise over 10 stories into the sky. These towers are used to call the people to worship.
They understand metalurgy and craft many types of tools and high quality items as well. Part of this includes the design and making of weapons. They fight mainly useing edged weapons but do have single shot rifles which are effective at supriseingly long ranges. All these weapons are incredible works of art with lots of time spent on detail and artful details.
