Hoverbikes

Your concerns are duly noted. Though "Stormtrooper" is NOT used (I was extremely careful not to use any terms blatantly Star Wars), and "hoverbike" appears nowhere in the Star Wars universe (it's "speeder bike" which is a repulsorlift craft), the point you're trying to make is taken. Please keep these two things in mind though -

1) different "brands" that belong to the same genre quite often share concepts. Sci-fi is rife with the same scientific ideas in multiple "brands" (Star Trek, Star Wars, Firefly, Andromeda, Babylon 5, Doctor Who, Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, Buck Rogers, etc, etc). Many have superluminal travel (Trek, Wars, Andromeda). Some avoid this by "gating" (Babylon, Buck Rogers, Stargate). But in reality, the scientific concepts are shared. Beam weapons. Space stations. Capital ships. Fighters. Alien species. Etc. It would be impossible to create a multispecies populated society that is tens of thousands of years old and NOT come across similar items. There is no Jedi, no Force, but there is technology that would be similar in a "different" universe. You still have freighters hauling cargo. People fighting wars. Oppression, crime, exploration. That doesn't change, and can not be the pervue of only one "brand" of a genre.

2) this stuff is almost entirely background material, for a campaign region that is not currently being used by any ship in the fleet, and also may NEVER see the light of day (unless USS Atlantis can make a recovery). At this point, these things are just data taking up space on the wiki.

I'm not making light of your comments. I can appreciate how you feel, and if you'd like to talk more, please, feel free. Constructive criticism is ALWAYS welcomed. -Varaan 18:46, 16 July 2006 (CDT)

So, if the term was changed, so that you did not immediately identify it with something from another "brand", would that seem to rectify your feelings? Or is there more to it (deep down)? Just trying to get to the heart of your concerns so I can try to correct it. -Varaan 11:37, 17 July 2006 (CDT)
Well, the term hoverbike was left ('cos you can't get more accurate for a bike that hovers). However, if you want to think of a better term, I will use it. I just can't think of one right now. As for "swoop", I know exactly what you mean, so I changed that. Couldn't think of anything similar to swoop, so I went with a totally alien word "renithor". And PLEASE don't be afraid to bring stuff like this up to me. We're here to work together, to make our stuff better. -Varaan 15:23, 2 August 2006 (CDT)
