(( Sickbay, Apollo ))

:: They had just finished with their patients, and sickbay was quiet, leaving Sun to be thinking about some things again. With the way this crew kept getting into trouble, she was going to need to take some action to help safeguard herself, as much as was possible in Starfleet, while allowing her to continue to do her job. ::

Faranster: Jalana... I need your help with something.

:: The Trill was bringing their workplace back in order. It was nothing worse than having a patient and not finding what they needed because they had neglected to put things back where they belonged. Hearing Sun she did not look up but listened.::

Laxyn: What do you need help with?

Faranster: I didn’t quite expect the amount of trouble that this crew tends to find.

:: It was true, she felt like they seeked out trouble, and that there would be one day she’d be injured beyond a bump on the head, or scrapes on her arms and legs. She knew that if that ever happened, she’d have to depend on technology to make synthetic blood and organs. But, she didn’t think they had the information needed to make them.::

:: That comment got Jalana’s attention and she raised her eyes to her assistant. She could easily understand these words, she had been surprised as well. Even more when she found herself in one of these situations, although she always had been careful to avoid them. The image of the rifle she had looked into came to her mind, shivers running down her back and her stomach clenched, but she quickly pushed the memory away, now wasn’t the time for that.::

Laxyn: That is understandable. ::Leaning against the biobed behind her.:: What are you thinking? Faranster: I was hoping to be prepared for worst case scenario, regarding anything that may happen to me.

:: The Trill wondered what that could mean. What was the worst case scenario? Well there were many, that much was clear. ::

Laxyn: It is good to be prepared. What exactly did you think about?

Faranster: Well, if something happens and I need blood, or an organ, I’d like to be prepared.

:: She wondered if the request sounded odd, but it seemed that the events from the night before made it less so as her boss looked thoughtful. ::

:: Just as Sun spoke Jalana remembered their conversation, that seemed like such a long time ago. Sundassa had told her about the biological differences between her species and others, the aggressiveness of their blood and how that made them incompatible with others. Back then Jalana of course saw the problems with that in case of emergencies, but they did not prepare for eventualities. Possibly they both did not have expected that they would be needed.::

Laxyn: I understand. I don’t know why I did not think of that earlier... it seemed unnecessary. But seeing what happened now even in a time all we wanted to do was having a nice vacation... ::she sighed:: One can never be too prepared I guess.

:: She knew her blood could be synthetically produced, but since the replicator made food a little off, she was a little worried about the blood being a bit off too, and it would be nice to have a small supply of her own blood in the event she needed it. ::

Faranster: I was thinking maybe we could do a series of blood draws, to build up a small supply of my blood. Just incase synthetics don’t work right...

Laxyn: ::nodding:: That should work. We do not know enough about your blood to replicate it, but if we have a sample we could grow it in the laboratory. It would have the advantage that we know for sure, that your body accepts it and won’t try to kick it off.

:: Now she needed to address the tricker subject, her organs. It would probably require some sort of scan to appropriately collect the information. ::

Faranster: Also, I was thinking that we’d need to update our database with my organs information, their dimensions and functionality...

Laxyn: ::Raising her brow in surprise:: Your organs?

Faranster: They should work replicated... It was one of the few things we actually used replicators for. Since it’s difficult to find a match.

:: The thought that Antosians did this regularly was quite a surprise to Jalana. She was used to the ‘artificial organ’ route and many seemed to walk this path. There were different kinds of artificial organs, from machines to synthetic ones. Now replicating of organs was a different thing. Usually Replicators could not simply replicate living matter, but medical replication worked a little different. It was replicating in a literal sense, from sample tissue and DNA cells of the patient instead of replicator mass. That took of course a little longer, but was still faster than trying to get a new organ in another way or to build it. To work the replicating process needed a model of the organ they were to replicate from scratch or they would not fit, might not have the proper functions or simply were not compatible. Since Antosians were pretty rare in the Fleet, they did not have this data on file yet, so this was an exciting little adventure. One Jalana had not expected to show up on her doorstep like that.::

Laxyn: Mhm.. that would need a deep scan to make sure we get everything right. To get an organ do what it is intended to do is, as you know, a lot of puzzle work with that method. But if it works, it’s genius. ::Jalana felt the excitement rush through her veins at the thought of that experiment she could conduct and clapped into her hands, pushing herself from the biobed.:: Where should we start?

:: She thought about it, not sure what to do first, but after a moment, the scan would probably take some time, and the blood draw should be saved for last. That way she could rest afterwards. And it was only something worth doing if they had time. ::

Faranster: I think the scan should be done first...

Laxyn: Good, then let’s start with that. ::She extended her arm to one of the biobeds further into sickbay.:: Those have a full body frame, so they work best.

:: Sun walked over to the biobed, while she hoped that everything would be done soon, there was a small part of her that was nervous that they were getting this out of the way now. She guessed it was because she could no longer be in denial of the dangerous situations that they found themselves in. ::

Faranster: I guess now is as good a time as any.

:: Jalana followed Sun to the biobed, though their way split as Jalana walked to the control panel and prepared for the scan. She would have to go in really deep and that would take a while longer than regular medical scans. But for that they would get a lot of information about Sun’s biology, her anatomy and the way Antosian bodies worked. A rare treasure and more than helpful if anything would happen to Sun to a degree that her body needed severe help.::

Laxyn: If you lay down, we can start in a minute.

:: Sun climbed up on the bed, and laid down, staring up at the ceiling, she wasn’t sure how long the process would take, and was wondering if on beds like these, they should put some sort of design on the ceiling to keep the patient’s attention off the sounds of the machine scanning. ::

:: The arc slowly slid out of the bed’s substruction and began to cover Sun’s body until it reached the other side, only the woman’s head was still visible as the control light lit up, signaling that it was ready to begin. Jalana pressed a few more keys to make sure that the Data landed where it should and controlled the settings before she started the scan. With that out of the way she turned to her friend and colleague, smiling down to her.::

Laxyn: And how did you spend the remaining time on Izar?

:: She glanced at her boss, trying to figure out how to answer the question, before staring back at the ceiling and thinking about after she left the hotel the evening before. She found it difficult not to smile at the thoughts, and carefully said. ::

Faranster: I decided to go camping at the lake...

Laxyn: :: The smile on her face mixed with a surprised raise of her brows.:: Camping?

Faranster: I had a room at the hotel, but it was just too much to be there right then. So, I wanted to be some place calmer.

:: Sun realized there was a different type of excitement at the lake for her, one that was more relaxing, and left her with goosebumps whenever she thought of it. But, she wasn’t sure how much she wanted her friend to know yet. ::

:: That reason sounded so very familiar to Jalana. She did not have the urge to stay at the hotel either, actually had been wanting to get as far away as possible. That Viktor had the idea to visit the forest played right into those wishes and she was still thankful for that.::

Laxyn: ::nodding:: I understand. I did not want to stay there either.

Faranster: :: Changing the focus of the questions. :: What about you?

Laxyn: ::not able to hide her smile:: Viktor took me away from the hotel too. We spent some time in a lovely forest and on a cliff to watch the sunset over the ocean.

Faranster: That sounds wonderful. My time was spent in the rain. :: Not that she minded, she enjoyed the company, and once she got out of the wet clothes, she was warm. She noticed her boss’s smile, she had an idea the two were a couple because of her behavior during quarantine, but the smile made her wonder. :: Anything interesting happen?

Laxyn: ::laughing:: I cannot hide anything, I guess. ::She raised her left hand, the silver band shining on her ring finger.:: Viktor proposed.

Faranster: You did say yes, right? :: She was pretty sure accepting the ring was an answer in itself. ::

Laxyn: No, I kept the ring because it was so nice. ::grinning:: Of course I said yes.

Faranster: That’s great! It looks like an interesting ring.

:: Holding out her hand she showed Sun the ring. The simple silver band ended in two hands that held a crowned heart.::

Laxyn: It is called a Claddagh.. it belonged to Viktor’s mother and before that her mother. From what I understand it is a traditionally Irish ring. I would have to look that up myself to be honest. But i think it’s beautiful.

:: Sun thought the ring was beautiful too, and the fact that it had family history made it seem more important. She was happy for her friend, a lot of thought went into it, and she was sure family blessings had to have too. ::

Faranster: Is there a date planned, or is it up in the air?

Laxyn: No, we do not know yet. Guess we’ll have to be surprised ::smiling::

:: Sun understood, it did just happen, so they probably didn’t have any further plans. She was happy for her friend. Once upon a time that might have been in the cards for her, and may eventually still be an option to her, but she was going to take things as they came at her. ::

Faranster: Are the customs on marriage the same between you both? Is it going to be something we can all be there for?

:: She was curious, she was pretty sure that wedding ceremonies like the ones they did on Antosia weren’t done in StarFleet, after all, the whole ship would come to a standstill for the celebration, which could last anywhere from three days to a week, depending on the endurance of the bridal couple. She wondered how they went about their customs on their military craft, she’d probably have to ask her brother about that. ::

Laxyn: To be honest. I am not sure, though I do hope that we can share it with our friends.

Faranster: Sounds like you have a lot of planning to do. :: She smiled at her friend. :: If you want any help, we tend to celebrate a lot of things at home, so I should be able to handle a party of sorts.

Laxyn: ::grinning:: That would be great, if we have a big party that is.

:: Sundassa was right, they would have a lot of planning to do. It didn’t mean that she wanted something huge and extravagant, but at least she and Viktor would have to talk about it, to be on the same page. So far she didn’t know anything but the outcome.::

Faranster: I hope you are together and happy as long as my grandparents, longer even.

Laxyn: :: Her curiosity peaked:: How long have they been together?

:: She thought about it for a moment, calculating her parent’s age, and then her own. She thought they had been together at least 80 years, but she didn’t want to make them sound old. ::

Faranster: Maybe 65 years? I know they’ve been together since my dad was born.

:: There was a beep coming from the controls and Jalana turned her eyes to the monitor. The Scans were not done yet, but they needed readjusting. Knowing their mission she had to deepen it on the cellular level, which only took a few key presses before the scan continued. She brought her attention back to Sun.::

Laxyn: That is quite impressive. Did they share their secret by any chance? ::grinning::

:: Sun was distracted the changing of settings, she wasn’t sure what happened and was wondering if maybe the scan was almost over. ::

Faranster: Apparently they are comfortable with themselves, but not afraid to surprise one another. Didn’t know what they meant as a kid. :: She paused. :: Are we almost done?

Laxyn: What? Oh yes. The scan was done with the setting it was on but needs to continue on the deepest level. That means you can get out of this thing in a few minutes. :: Jalana became quiet and the memory of the day before became present again, not the great one... the time in the restaurant. Of course, why should it stay away? Her eyes on the smooth surface of the arc, she quietly said. :: You have been doing quite a job out there yesterday, you know that?

:: Sun knew she was doing this, getting prepared, because of the day before, but she wasn’t spending much time focusing on it. When it was happening, her focus was on preventing lives being lost, she was worried about her friends and Jaxx. It didn’t help that she had the “Vice Admiral” working against her every step of the way, it was just a good thing she had a good team, and a bit of luck. ::

Faranster: I was just trying to save lives, and had quite a bit of help in doing so.

Laxyn: No need to play it down, Sun. You were anything but trained for this situation and handled it quite well. It would have been tough on anyone. But that we got out alive, all of us including the hostages, is just proof that you did well, even if it wasn’t easy.

Faranster. People got hurt anyway. Dade and Alex broke their legs, :: She paused before almost saying his name :: the Captain got shot, and there were some people that lost their lives. One of which shouldn’t have been there if it wasn’t for me. Marcus got a nasty bump in the back of the head, but after the shooting, I don’t feel too bad for him.

Laxyn: I know that there have been hurt and sadly deaths ::She wondered who Sun was talking about, who should not have been there...:: but it could have been much more without your work and the help of those on the outside with you.

Faranster: And, what was Big Blue doing?

:: She wanted to know what happened in there, the blast happened right after he rushed the captors, which couldn’t have been a coincidence. ::

Laxyn: ::sighing:: Don’t ask me. I guess he was tired of waiting or wanted to distract the hostage takers, to give the rest a chance to overwhelm them. I wasn’t with him when he did that, so I missed the talks about his plan. All i saw of it was him lying on the ground after some noise and phaser fire.

Faranster: How bad were his injuries? Did he check in once coming onboard?

Laxyn: He should have been out ice cold for a while, at least a day or two, especially without proper medical care. But for some reason he got up and fought again. As for the checking in... he actually is missing. Viktor has been called away by Jaxx, not that long after we settled back in to go looking for him on the planet.

Faranster: I see. :: She nodded and fell silent while Jalana explained. ::

:: She wasn’t sure what to make of the man causing trouble again. Jalana was right that he should out, and the man just kept ticking. ::

Laxyn: ::Brushing through her hair she inhaled slightly:: If he doesn’t watch it, he’ll spend more time on Sick Bay than both of us together.

Faranster: The man that you helped, did you get any further information on him? I wished I sent in more helpful equipment, but needed to figure out a way to use the situation to our advantage.

Laxyn: I actually wanted to contact the hospital today to check up on him. He might not be a crew member but I still feel like I should make sure he got out alright. Who was that other person you spoke about, who was there because of you?

:: She nodded, Bajoran the woman who greeted tourists, Saray Ileana. Who died due to injuries caused by the explosion. The woman who wouldn’t have been there if Sun didn’t ask her to tag along. ::

Faranster: Yeah. While we were eating, one of the new guys had brought a date, and she knew more about the place than any of us, so I asked for her to help us. When the bomb went off, she was caught in the blast and suffered some severe injuries.

Laxyn: I see. You were not able to control that explosion, Sun. I’m sure you did everything you could.

:: It reminded her of her former patient back on Earth during her residency. He had been quite sick and nothing they had done could have helped. Still she’d felt like she hadn’t done enough to avoid the unavoidable. Maybe that was the curse with being a doctor, one always thought that there should have been more to do.::

Faranster: Everything I could. :: She thought to the different injuries, and Jalana having the phasers pointed at her. :: Have you ever been shot with a phaser?

Laxyn: ::She blinked, first in confusion and then to shake off the memory of that rifle in her face.:: What?

Faranster: I know it’s a strange question, I’m sorry. I just am not sure what it feels like, and you had them pointed at you yesterday. I am not sure how I would have reacted to that.

:: Now she had more reasons to be curious, if she had a phaser pointed at her, she didn’t want to wonder what it would feel like, she wanted to know. That way she would know whether what she was doing was worth the wound or not. Without the information, she might make a stupid decision one way or another. ::

Laxyn: It was... ::She halted in her words to explain how she had felt, and decided to simply answer the question.:: No. I haven’t.

Faranster: I haven’t either. I just don’t know what our people felt when hit, or if I would be as brave as you or not when faced with the circumstances. I’d like to think I would.

Laxyn: I was anything but brave. If there would not have been a life at risk... I was terrified. And I thank whoever is holding their hand over me for keeping me alive.

:: She thought about it for a moment. ::

Faranster: I know this is a lot to ask, but I would like to perform a little experiment...

Laxyn: ::Thankful for the distractions from the train of memory she looked at Sun.:: What kind of experiment?

Faranster: :: She paused for a moment, not sure if her curiosity would be shared. :: I’d like to know what being shot by a phaser feels like, would you help me?

Laxyn: ::staring at her:: You can’t be serious. :: She was baffled. Why would anyone ever want to be shot at? People usually wanted to avoid the very same.::

Faranster: I am. It doesn’t help me to know what the patient is going through if I haven’t felt even a bit of what they are going through. If I know what a phaser feels like, I’ll whether or not to be scared, and take appropriate action. Not to mention, that my curiosity would be satisfied in a safe environment where nothing is likely to happen to me.

:: Listening to the explanation, it slowly started to make sense. To know what would happen, how it felt, would possibly help to prepare oneself instead of being overwhelmed with the new sensation, the changes in ones body. She could not imagine how it would feel, she only saw those that were injured and that usually didn’t look too well. ::

Laxyn: I understand your reasons... but I am not going to shoot at you, Sun.

Faranster: I’m glad you understand. For a moment I was worried you thought I was crazy. Would you at least make sure nothing goes wrong if I can find someone else who knows more about them to help?

:: Her thoughts went back to Jaxx and how he made it seem like it wasn’t a big deal. It was conflicting to have someone she cared for giving her one impression, along side the fact that they used phasers as weapons to ensure their safety. ::

:: The scanner beeped again, giving the signal that it was done. Jalana was thankful for the break, the small distraction. It gave her time to think about the request. If she would not have to shoot, would it be better? She pressed a few keys and the arc opened, freeing Sun’s body from the medical cage.::

:: Sun sat up and swung her legs over the side, glad the scan was over, and even though she wanted her request to be over too, she needed to have someone there to take care of her in the event something went wrong. Which is why she asked Jalana in the first place. ::

Faranster: It’d be easier to put my foot down about situations like Big Blue’s if I knew it was a big deal.

Laxyn: ::taking a deep breath, it was obvious how uncomfortable she was with the thought.:: If you find someone else to shoot at you... I would have to keep a very close eye on you and be able to treat you right away.

Faranster: Thank you for hearing out the request, Jalana, and for least helping make sure nothing goes wrong.

:: She knew her friend was uncomfortable with being asked, she hoped that she didn’t make her friend worry about her too much. ::

Laxyn: ::nodding:: I do not like it. But if this is so important to you, that is the least I can do.

Faranster: Do you think we’ll have any more patients today? Besides Big Blue, when they get back?

Laxyn: Maybe the usual. Headache, bumped their toe or the like, but I don’t expect anything big besides him. Why do you ask?

Faranster: I was just thinking the blood draw should be done before we’re done work, unless you want me still working afterwards...

Laxyn: I think when Tal is through, we can both call it a day. Brooke has done a good job so far and since we did not really have the day off yesterday, we should catch up on that. What do you think?

Faranster: I think that sounds good. You’re right, we were kinda on an odd schedule yesterday, called to duty or with you guys, held hostage, in the middle of the break. But, if they need us?

:: Sun was looking forward to keeping her promise to Jaxx, and checking out his quarters when she was finished work. ::

Laxyn: Guess they can still call us if something happens, we didn’t expect.

:: And if Viktor had to do some work, she could still work on her thesis. She had done some of it already, but was not finished yet. If she ever wanted to be an official doctor she really should get into gear.::

Faranster: Isn’t that always the case though? :: She laughed. ::

:: Jalana turned to the terminal and transferred the results of the scans into Sun’s file so she would find them easily when she’d begin to work with them and turned to Sun with a smile and clapped into her hands.::

Laxyn: Now until then.. how do you feel about some exercise ::She grinned and pointed to the delivery still standing in the corner.::

Faranster: Yay. :: She said sarcastically. :: Looks like someone was busy shopping while we were gone.

:: Sun headed towards the containers, and started opening them trying to figure out what was in them and started putting away the items, newer stuff behind the older stuff, the way it was supposed to be. ::

:: Jalana followed her friend and grabbed one of the boxes that would store some of the drugs they needed and heaved it to the cabinet. She really would have to check up with this new Doctor sooner or later, to make it clear to him, that he was supposed to not simply drop that stuff somewhere when he accepted it. But that would have to wait until they made sure that the delivery would not be in the way anymore. ::
