Nyka Wyss/Alternate Universe Facts List

These are the current facts known only to writers about Nyka’s Alternate Universe:

• The Xith are an Insect-Humanoid species with a hard exo-skeleton designed to withstand the extreme heat of living close to their sun. Their dense outer shell protects them against phaser-based weapons. Likewise, their ships are made of similar materials. Both the Xith and their ships require projectile type weapons or explosives to penetrate the armor. They consume the natural and biological resources of every planet, leaving them barren and dead. A yellow silt of sulfate-like mineral is all that is left behind on the surface of reclaimed planets. This yellow dust is either something the Xith use to pull resources from the planet, or it is a useless mineral to the Xith.

• Vulcans are a powerhouse on every level. They are intensely passionate about everything, showed great emotional and physical strength, and are deadly smart warriors. There was never a “great reformation”, or a philosopher named Surak, and there are no Romulans because of it.

• Andorians are a highly intellectual science oriented species.

• The Cardassians blew up their own planet in order to delay the Xith invasion of Bajor, and buy Bajor time to evacuate. The plan failed and while there was damage to the Xith forces they skipped the usual recycling process of the destroyed planet and headed to Bajor. Cardassians and Bajorans never had conflicts and got along quiet neighborly.

• Bajor and most of the population was consumed by the Xith. Only about one thousand Bajorans were evacuated from the planet.

• A good medic is very rare. Most people avoid any kind of treatment because of a lack of cross-species medical knowledge. The old saying is, “If you ain’t dead, you don’t need a medic.”

• Even more rare than a good doctor, is a Telepath. They are the unicorns of the universe, and the first species that was targeted by the Xith upon their arrival. Nobody knows why, but speculation is that Telepaths are a threat to the Xith.

• Engineers and Soldiers are a dime a dozen, and expendable.

• There is no United Federation of Planets. Every planet had their own trade arrangements with each other and lived independently. When the Xith invasion started wiping out whole populations and planets, a Galactic Alliance was hastily formed.

• New ship construction is strained due to a lack of resources from the war, and most warships are pieced and parted together from the battle remains of lost vessels. A Sovereign class ship may be welded together with several other class vessels. Warp 5 is the maximum achievement.

• Caitians are hardcore isolationists that managed to momentarily thwart the Xith invasion of their homeworld. Just how they did this remains a mystery. However, their initial good fortune with the enemy is why most ships had brought common-house cats on board. There was hope that something inherently biological in the animal would be beneficial – later it just became a symbol of luck to have a cat, or cats, aboard. They also kept the rodent population at bay. It is believed that the Caitians seclusion from other species, and their refusal to accept help from the outside lead to their extinction via the Xith. The fact that hey did not share information on their momentary good fortune against the Xith also hurt the rest of the galaxies.

• Coil Rifles & Pistols are electromagnetic projectile weapons that do not use gas explosives. Electromagnetic force is used to launch high velocity projectiles. These weapons have proven effective against the Xith and their vessels.
