Ensign John Valdivia is currently serving as a Science Officer aboard the Victory.
<!--Let's start with your sidebar! Take out Harry Kim's info above and put in your own character's information. Valid colors are Red, Gold, Blue, Teal, Violet, Black, Silver, and Green. Remember those colors as we'll be using them for the section headers in the rest of this bio.

Appearance
Not all ranks are available in all colors. Use full rank names (except for Lieutenant JG and Lt. Commander, and Lt. Colonel). Pipstyle can be changed from Default to DS9 or Slanted. See the table later in this bio for examples of each. There is also an extra STO pip set, but it works best in the table rather than in the sidebar.
* Height: 1'88m
* Weight: 82kg
* Hair: Black
* Eyes: Dark brown
* Facial hair: Light beard

For date of birth, add a leading zero for single digit months and dates. The sidebar will automatically calculate your character's age as well.

Friends
If you have an image for your character, add the file name for it such as EnsignSmith.jpg in the last field.
John Valdivia made good friends during his service, with whom he keeps in contact occasionally even if they don't serve together anymore.

* Blueheart, Raj
Do NOT put or or File: in the name. The template will automatically resize your image to fit the sidebar.

John Valdivia served with Raj Blueheart during all the time he was aboard Discovery. They became great friends, and Blueheart was always the emotional part Valdivia barely had, between the two keeping the balance between rationality and emotion.
If you don't have an image for your character, just leave that field blank and a placeholder will show up instead. You can use the "EXTRA" field if you want to add something else to the bottom of your sidebar such as another image, a badge such as the Featured Bio Contest winner badge or links to subpages such as an academy transcript or a medical record. If you don't want to add anything, just leave it blank as well.
During his retirement, Valdivia kept in contact with Raj Blueheart, who was the person that convinced him to go back to starfleet.

* Lundrigan, Eric
Once you're done, we'll move onto the introductory sentence/paragraph for your character below!-->

Eric Lundrigan was also from New Berlin, and although they had never talked to each other before, they remembered each other, and that brought them together quite easily. Since then, they were great friends during all their years on Discovery. After Eric retired, they kept occasional contact, and John Valdivia is sure to visit him whenever he comes near Earth.
(Your rank and name) is currently serving as a (your duty post) aboard the (Your Ship). (A table of contents will be automatically generated below this line - you won't see it in the edit window but it'll be right there once you save the page!)

Due to his age and irregular career, Valdivia has never had a long love relationships, and all his stable relationships wenton just for as long as they stayed together. For the moment he is fine with that, and doesn't look for compromises, but he has also learned this is not something he can choose.

Whom does your character get on with or not get on with? For now, pick one member of your current crew and enter their name below, then describe the nature of your character's relationship with them.

* Cruella
* (Name of character)
(Description Here)

Sister Cruella was a "vampire" Reman the Discovery-B encountered and freed. She became part of the ship, taking over the bar, and both from interest and curiosity the two became closer. However, Valdivia knew their relationship was also bound to the ship, as neither was ready for a long term compromise, and the two separated when Valdivia retired.

In the coding above, delete two of the headings so that only one remains. You can then type here as if you were writing on notepad to drop in some information about your character. If you want to use bullets, copy and paste the star above. You can also look on the forums and the wiki for tutorials on how to use more adventurous coding. Want to include sections for Background, Personality AND Career History? Just copy the code for the title bar above, then paste it in type in the title you want - you can add extra sections in too!
During his time as a civilian on the Regulus III Science Academy, he became involved with the chief engineer of the Mainardi project. Their relationship blossomed from the long hours they spent together for work reasons, but it also ended when their work together was done, and Martha Williams took over the Mainardi project. They still keep in contact, and might see each other ocassionally, but they do not see this as a relationship anymore.

Personal History
His was a modest family in the lunar colony of New Berlin. His father had one of the artificial farms, which was owned by his family since almost the 22th century. Although he was supposed to become a farmer as his father and brother, the fact that Adam would inherit the farm allowed John to start studying at the academy.

His family did not understand him, but they accepted he liked studying, and wanted to be in Starfleet, and they helped him with no problems more than a little argument from time to time.

Now that he is finally doing what he wanted to do, his family is still sad that he did not want to work in the farm, but they are happy that he succeeded in what he wanted, and he keeps good relations with them.

Starfleet History

He joined Starfleet on 2386, and was posted on the USS Discovery-B. He served there as Science Officer, as Chief of Operations, and later as Chief Science Officer, post that he kept on the USS Discovery-C

On 239002.27 he retired from starfleet to lead the scientific project codenamed Mainardi (cf Academic History). He rejoined starfleet later on, in 2392.

An explicit service record can be found later on this page.

Academic History

He majored in mathematics, while also studying computer science and astrophysics, and while yet on Starfleet Academy he parallely started a PhD program on the Regulus III Science Academy, on Virtual Intelligence and programming algorithm for ship computers, advised by Doctor Tabris. He was posted to Discovery, where he continued his PhD studies with practical problems, and was finally granted the title of Doctor (cum Laude) on 238808.01.

After that, his research interests moved a bit, to the study of warp fields, and joined the research group on Differential Geometry. He used his skills on computer science to solve the problem of solving the Codazzi-Mainardi equations for different warp field configurations for a ship.

After two years on the project, Doctor Valdivia was offered the direction of the Mainardi program, focused on building an actual prototype, so he left Starfleet and stayed in Regulus III.

On 239201.11, after officially handing the Mainardi project to the engineering division, once the mathematical part was over and the rest was building the ship itself, he decided to return to Starfleet, while still being part of the Mainardi research group, from a distance.

Personality traits

He is introverted, and has a noticeable lack of social abilities, mainly because he loves speaking about mathematics or physics and that makes other people reticent to speaking with him. He often feels frustrated when someone doesn't seem to be able to follow his reasoning, but he accepts that he would not be able to follow a conversation about Earth politics, so he understands that everyone has his own field of excellence. He is an expert programmer, and has his own file of updated ship commands that he uploads for his personal computers.

Giving more importance to his academic career over his starfleet one, he prefers to use the "doctor" over his rank, whenever possible. For the same reason, he is not eager to ascend in ranks and take further responsabilities that would keep him away from his research interests.

Service History

Below you'll see a table which contains images for rank pips - you can change the word 'Gold' for 'Red' or 'Teal' or one of the other colors listed earlier to match your duty post. Again, not all ranks are available in all colors and/or pipstyles. You can change pips from the default to a different style such as DS9, STO, or Slanted by adding DS9, STO, or Slanted after the color.
