Beautiful Concepts

((USS Excalibur – Deck 6 – Diplomatic facilities – One Conference Room))

::Brek had decided to get rid of the Vitali 7 vials he had found, yet it was nonetheless with regret that he saw Gavin take them. But then, beyond his natural urge to possess stuff, he had also become quite fond of the drug's cheesy smell. In his opinion, it had the right mixture of ammonia, sodium chloride and succinic acid. But he doubted that Gavin would be interested in this yummy detail.::

Gavin: reaching out and taking the vials:: Oo Johanna will likely pitch these down the toilet. Oo Eh will see her; Eh'm a bit concerned about her. She loved the base; in fact, she'd blossomed there in a way Eh'd never seen before. Eh'm not at liberty to tell you why the base meant so much to her, but Eh appreciate your concern.

Brek: It's perfectly understandable that she should feel like this, since we've had virtually no time to prepare ourselves for the transfer. 118 is a prestigious Starbase and it will always mean a lot to me. ::He sighed.:: All those restaurants and antique sellers... They are all gone.... But duty is duty, and on the Excalibur we'll all be more proactive than we were on the station.

Gavin: putting the vials in his pocket. Thank you for this Brek. Eh'll get it to Johanna right away. To ease your mind, Eh ken where the rest of the Vitali is. Eh have a friend, Delia Ailed, the most curious El-Aurian reporter who'd been helping me on this. Eh'd authorized funds for her to try to buy some of this. She's still verra young for her species; she looks like a Terran teenager, so she went under cover at the high school. It turned out that a teenage boy developed a crush on her and gave some of this to her since she'd been asking about it.

Brek: I'm glad to see that you've been able to investigate the problem further, Gavin. As for teenagers, they will do the strangest things in order to feel like adults. I guess we've all been there... But are you sure you can rely on this Delia Ailed? I don't want to question your friendship, but reporters often have their own agenda...

Gavin: Delia can be trusted to turn it over to the new security team. What we dinna ken yet is where the laddie got it. Eh'll work on it as soon as Eh get back to the base. Trust me; Eh'll leave no stone unturned to find out whoever sold this to youngsters.

::Brek tried to prevent it, but he knew it had happened: he had a nervous grin on his face. So to make up for this, he spoke with enthusiasm.::

Brek: I really admire your dedication Gavin! This is what Starfleet needs the most I think: resourceful people who get the job done!

::Which was exactly what he had mentioned in the file he had sent to Commander Reck. Now, was it right to do what's best for a person, against their will? No. But he would worry about this later. Even lousy news can be wrapped with beautiful concepts, to make them sound irresistible. If he couldn't achieve this, then he was no diplomat at all.::

Gavin: Anything else?

Brek: No, that's about it really. You should check on your sister. See if you can make her view our new assignment in a better light. I think her responsibilities are as huge now, with a whole species to cure, as they were on 118. If anything, we had an easy life on the Starbase... oO And that's probably what I miss the more. All the prestige and privileges, without doing much for them, really... Oo

::No sooner had Gavin left that Brek was contacted by his secretary, Ensign Emily Evprak. She was all upset because his grandmother had contacted her desk and had shouted a good few abusive words at her. Apparently, those expletives had been so injurious that a lady like herself was mortified, and would never ever repeat them aloud. Though obviously she could complain about them quite a lot.::

Brek: oO Abso-bloomin-lutely fantastic! I got a lady on my staff now... Oo

::In his personal dictionary (which to be honest, he should publish one of these days), ladies were fantasy creatures between pixies and hobgoblins. They pretended to be delicate so that they could be excused from doing any kind of hard work.::

Brek: =/\= Take a couple of hours off, Evprak. Brek out. =/\=

::It was always better not to speak too long with Evprak, or he would end up barking at her. Now, had he really read that there was a galley and also a banquet hall on this deck?::
