History

The Galadorans are a race of space-faring, sentient, diploblastic beings, similar in appearance to Terran ‘jelly-fish’ but that is where the similarities end. It is unclear how far in the dim and distant past that the Galadorans started their technological developments, but it is over a millennium since they entered a post-industrial society. They are non-native to Galador, originally hailing from a distant corner of the galaxy, but their homeworld was destroyed by an expanding wormhole centuries in the past. The Galadorans were prepared long enough to build a fleet of massive ships set out across the galaxy in search of new homes. One such ‘ark’ landed on the deserted but fertile Galador. The warm moist climate suited their needs and they settled in the lowland swamps near the equator where they constructed their domed cities.

Government

Galadoran society is comprised of two sister races - the Toaijans and the Gnaijans (known as Trojans and Ganizers to outsiders), but they are on good terms and co-exists peacefully. Each group live in communal dome like cities, and their society acts like an extended clonal colony rather than a state of many individuals, although strictly speaking they are not a super-being, but many millions of individual beings.

The Galadorans are allies of the Federation, and trade freely with them, but do not partake in the activities of Star Fleet.

Physiology

The jelly-like, luminous Galadorans prefer wallowing in shallow warm pools under their domes of tranquillity than for venturing outside. Without use of their personal travel machines, they would be only able to ‘slide’ their way across open ground or shallow water. The Galadorans are also able to glow in dark light. This ability is due to luminescent pigments in their blood.

Psychology

Galadorans have strong psychic energies. However, their telepathy is only between their own kind. They cannot read the minds of other races. The only skill they have in that field is that when they talk to other species, the voice is projected into the mind of the receiver. The Galadorans have no vocal chords in the traditional sense. However, this psychic projection is just one way. A visitor’s thoughts are still their own.

Religion

The Galadorans’ highest moral code is a desire for their entire race to eventually be reunited into one glorious sentient entity, and travel the galaxy learning about the mysteries of the universe.

Mythology

The Galadorans have little time for myth and superstition but tales of their ancestors are very popular and retold often, but are always portrayed as historical fact rather than anything more fantastic.

Society

Galadoran society is confined to its few domed sanctuaries, and is akin to a mass colonial group like an ‘Ants’ Nest’. As they reproduce asexually, family units are not even a notional concept, and offspring are literally offshoots of their parents, and have to a more or less degree the same psychological make-up. This allows for great cohesiveness within Galadoran society.

Culture

Galadoran arts and culture tend to center around the production of fascinating light shows, generated by the Galadorans’ bodies themselves. It seems these luminous light displays perform the functions of art, song and stories all in one.

Customs

Galadorans are very respectful of their own kind, their ancestors – of whom they are effectively clones, and are generally welcoming (if a little wary) of outsiders until their true intentions are revealed. So far their only outside ‘ally’ is the Federation.

Technology

Lacking any obvious limbs beyond stout pod like appendages, it is a marvel that they have been able to even wield basic tools, let alone build spaceships to fly amongst the stars, but in fact the early Galadorans were able to control small rod like devices that use a combination of chemicals and electro-magnetic fields to control larger pieces of equipment. It took them many centuries, but eventually these simple machines were used to builder more complex devices, and their technological development snowballed from there. Now with advanced robotics and nanotechnology, the physically frail Galadorans are masters of machinery. Consequently, the Galadorans have developed their own unique brand of technology, largely chemical and optical based. Light is passed through a number of fluid filled chambers, some constructed and some within their own bodies – and these have been used for a wide number of purposes such as communication, energy transfer and medical purposes.

Economy

They are traders in energy and nano –technology. Their highly developed matter conversion systems are very similar to replicators, but on a much larger scale and tend to be more concerned with the conversion of raw materials such as rock and water into highly concentrated energy packets. They are even working hard on finding a more abundant alternative to dilithium crystals.

A new diversification is the encouraging of tourism to Galador for Federation citizens. It’s warm climate, peaceful status and non-threatening inhabitants makes it a potential lucrative destination to rival Risa.

Military

The Galadorans have no standing army, but have devised highly developed and automated defence grids and weaponry to keep them safe from surprise attacks. Their ships are also usually heavily armed, all be it civilian, cruisers. Otherwise, the Galadorans are peaceful, and have little interest in governing anyone beyond their own species.

Federation Intelligence Files

The Galadoran are a space-faring race which had no ship in Deep Space 9's local sector at the time of Dukat's kidnapping in 2370 - a clue to confirming that a ship claiming to be of such registry was really Maquis. This form of the word is used only for the natives; adjectival forms display the usage as seen in the example "Galador ship."
