- "Learning more about the universe needs to be both a work of logic and passion."

- "Learning more about the universe needs to be both a work of logic and passion."
- The Napeans are a humanoid species with unusual origins. They seem to be a weird genetic mix, part human, part Betaoid and part something else that so far defies any explanation of how they came to be.

History
In depth archeological evidence would seem to indicate that the Napians suddenly appeared on their home world of Napia II approximately 2,800 years ago. There is absolutely no data or evidence to support the belief that they evolved and developed on this world.
The recent discovery of what may be the remains of a massive cryogenic colony vessel discovered beneath a couple layers of rubble underneath the central Temple of Kryon, the oldest surviving structure on the planet may go a long ways towards eventually explaining who they are and where they came from.
Furthermore the archeological evidence shows that from about 2,800 to approximately 2,300 years ago their entire population lived in a series of lush valleys and plains that were all interconnected by a series of massive rivers and a number of fresh water lakes. Most of the evidence would seem to indicate that the location of the oldest archeological evidence is the same valley that holds the central Temple to Kryon.
This period in their history was followed by one where small and large groups of individuals traveled to new locations and established new colonies. By 1,850 they had almost settled every corner of their world.
After this they continued to develop at a fairly constant rate with no true conflicts, aggressive exchanges or hostile disputes. In fact trade and a very reliable system of co-operation and assistance was developed that eventually became the basis for the establishment of a central unified government.
In time they discovered the technology required to explore first their system and then nearby ones as well. This was followed by warp drive technology. They established contact with a number of species. One of these early species was the Denobulans.
As a result once the Federation had been established they were one of the first species that requested admission. Due to their favorable contact with a number of species including the Denobulans, the Rigellians and the Vulcans they were quickly voted in.
Since then they have been a firm supporter of the Federation, providing scientists and engineers to many different research projects, construction projects and eventually most terraforming activities everywhere with in the Federation.
Government
They have had a central government for almost 1,500 years and while it has slowly evolved over the years it has still been a fairly effect force for the positive development of them as a species. Now days they are governed by a council of 11 made up of 5 engineers, 5 scientists and the head of their church who presides over the council as the Prelate.
Description
Physically, the Napians, resemble Terrans and Betazoids and genetic analysis leads to the supposition that the Napian race is a transplanted cross between the two races, with just enough genetic differences to be detected. They are physically similar to most humanoids excepting for their having a large, leaf-shaped forehead ridge.
Physiology
As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.
There is a tiny egg-shaped organ near the base of the brain on all Napeans due to a genetically engineered mutation that provides them with their empathic abilities.
Psychology
As a species they seem to be fairly laid back and prone to avoid confrontations whenever possible. They prefer the logical approach to all problems which may explain why so many of them become engineers or scientists.
As for their mental health they have a few serious illnesses that can affect their mental stability. All of these can be traced back to the tiny egg-shaped organ near the base of their brain. Other than this less than 1/10th will ever suffer from some kind of mental instability, most of which can now be effective treated in one manner or another.
ESP
Most Napians do not bother to use or cultivate their Psi skills and their training techniques can take years for what Betazoids and Vulcans learn in weeks. Those that perfect their empathic and limited telepathic skills serve professionally in Napian culture.
Religion
The Temple of Kryon is dedicated to Kryon the Great who slew the demon of death and freed them from bondage. This is portrayed in the oldest temple, the central Temple of Kryon in the heart of their capitol as a massive fiery fist smashing to the earth and exploding into a shower of sparks that are transformed into people every time one of those drops hit the ground.
Mythology
While they have a rich and diverse collection of myths and legends the oldest and most significant is the one about the crash of thunder and death defying, fiery drop of doom that heralded their arrival in this world. They accredit this miracle to Kryon the Great who slew the demon of death and freed them from bondage.
Society
They have a well ordered society with little crime and well-designed communities. These are spacious with lots of green areas, parks, gardens etc. Infrastructure is modern, well maintained and more than adequate to the populations that they are intended to serve. Services are available to all and they have a well trained and equipped emergency services system. Recreational facilities are plentiful and varied.
Culture
As a people they have a great curiosity and love for most forms of artistic expression but they tend to avoid or not be able to appreciate any form of impressionist or modernistic art forms preferring the logic of realism both in music and all visual art forms.
Customs
Most of their people will visit the main Temple of Kryon in the capital a number of times in their life. They do this whenever they plan to make a major change in their lives such as getting married, enlist in Starfleet or take a job position off world.
Technology
They have an extremely well-funded and designed education system and everyone is encouraged to take full advantage of it. They have numerous R & D facilities on world but they also supply researchers, specialists and engineers to many facilities and projects throughout the Federation. They are also one of the leaders when it comes to terraforming technology.
Economy
Soon after they had perfected warp drive technology they met with and quickly established a number of trade deals. They were able to parley these into many more and soon they had tripled their economic worth as a species. The overall quality of living for all of their people increased by more than 43% and their terraforming experts are in high demand throughout the Federation.
Military
Prior to their joining the Federation they had no military and no need for one as they were not near any hostile species or any strategic or economically important locations. However since joining some of them have enlisted in Starfleet. In most cases these individuals have all done so as either engineers or scientists.
To this date fewer than 23 have ever enlisted in the Federation Marine Core. As a species they do not seem to have the temperament needed to make good soldiers.
Federation Intelligence Files
The Napians are members of the Federation but take little interest in the rest of the galaxy. The Napeans speak Napea. As a species that have mastered the art of terraforming and almost all of their people who enlist in Starfleet do so as either engineers or scientists.
Starfleet Lieutenant Daniel Kwan was half-Human and half-Napean hybrid. A crewmember serving on board the Nebula-class USS Lexington was also of Napean descent. Another Napean was part of Kasidy Yates crew aboard the Xhosa and a Napean was the chief of security for Starfleet Academy.
Sources
Both Memory Alpha and Memory Beta were used as references as well as the following TV episodes, TNG: Eye of the Beholder, DS9: Explorers and DS9: Family Business.
Also used was the written source book, Decipher RPG module: Aliens and the non-canon video game Star Trek: Elite Force II.
