History

Manuel (Manny) comes from Guadalajara, Mexico, and is the eldest of four children. His parents, both medical professionals, were obliged to spend a lot of time away from home, so Manny was often required to mind his younger siblings, something that imparted a degree of maturity upon him at an early age.

Manny originally intended to follow his parents and practice medicine. He did well in school and was on track during medical school to becoming a promising doctor. Midway through his medical training, he became acutely aware of how many of his fellow students were succumbing to psychoses and depression, due to the stress put upon them by the intensity of their studies. As he sought to reach out and help his peers, Manuel discovered that he seemed to have a natural aptitude for listening and guiding.

Manny left medical school and instead pursued a degree in clinical psychology. Upon graduating, he met with a recruiter who explained how Starfleet was in need of counselors for their enlisted men and women. After giving the matter some thought, Manuel decided to pursue officer training in Starfleet.
