The Ferengi are a greedy humanoid race, obsessed by the accumulation of wealth. They are a shrewd, untrustworthy, trading race whose culture requires the males to relentlessly seek profit while females are left naked and submissive. The Ferengi are renowned throughout the Federation as being pestersome and untrustworthy.

The Ferengi have 285 'Rules of Aquisition', a set of business-related proverbs that all half-educated Ferengi know by heart. These rules are often heard quoted by Ferengi, and are used as a guide to 'good' trading.
