118Wiki
When was 118Wiki created?
118Wiki was born in March 2004. By then, StarBase118 PBEM RPG was almost a decade old community!
Why does 118Wiki look like Wikipedia?
118Wiki is powered by MediaWiki, a free and open-source software that is indeed also used by Wikipedia and several other wikis around the internet. It was originally created for Wikipedia in 2002, and is now developed and maintained by Wikimedia Foundation, the organization that runs Wikipedia.
How many pages/users/files etc. are there in 118Wiki?
There are the total of 52,514 pages and 22,035 files, edited 372,226 times in total. There are 3,788 users, of whom 79 have been active during the past 30 days.
You can find more statistics at the Statistics page.
Account
How do I get my wiki account?
Your wiki account will be created by your ship's staff (CO or FO). You should receive your account within 72 hours of being placed on your ship. Check your spam/junk email folder if you don't see your login information.
How do I reset my password?
If you have forgotten your 118Wiki password, you can use the Password Reset page. A temporary password will be sent to your email. Note: Due to system error, some temporary password emails are not properly sent. If you don’t receive one (remember to check the spam folder), contact an administrator or your CO/XO.
If you remember your old password, you can change it via Preferences.
Can I edit 118Wiki without an account?
No. You must have an account and be logged in to edit pages or otherwise contribute to 118Wiki. Anonymous/IP edits have been disabled. You can still read 118Wiki without an account.
Editing
How do I upload an image?
There are two ways to upload an image on the wiki. The first and foremost is to head to the Upload file link found under "Tools" in the wiki sidebar. Follow the prompts, and your image will be uploaded.
The second involves leaving a file link on a page. So, for example, if you wanted to upload File:FAQ-images.jpg, you would leave [[File:FAQ-images.jpg]]
on your page. Click the red link, and you will be taken to the same upload page as listed above — but this time, some of the file details, such as the file's name, will already be input for you. Return to your page, and your file should be where you left your image code. Please note that if your new image doesn't appear to have uploaded, and you did not receive an error message, you may need to clear your browser cache, to reflect an uploaded or re-uploaded image. Give the wiki some time before attempting to upload again.
How do I create a sandbox or subpage?
- Go to your user page and click edit
- Add a link on the page like this: [[/sandbox]]
- Preview the page and click on the link, or save the page and then click the link.
How do I delete a page/file?
You can mark a page or file for deletion by adding Template:Delete to it. Add {{Delete|Reason}}
(replace "Reason" with why you think the page or file should be deleted) and save or use Visual Editor's template search. An administrator will delete the page/file later if they agree with your reasoning.
Why is my text in code font?
Demonstration of code font
MediaWiki program formats lines that begin with spaces differently from the rest of the text. If you edit a page and found after saving that a portion of the text appears as in the demonstration above, see if there are one or more spaces before it.
If you meant to indent a paragraph, use colons : instead, as they will be rendered as indentation at the beginning of a line. For other objects, consider using CSS tags if needed.
Visual Editor
Why aren't there more guides for Visual Editor?
Visual Editor was added to 118Wiki only in January 2023. Most help pages or guides have not yet been updated to give instructions for Visual Editor users. You can find more help for using Visual Editor from English Wikipedia VisualEditor guide.
Why can't I edit some pages with Visual Editor?
Visual Editor is designed to be used on article pages. Editing certain other pages such as templates may be impossible or cumbersome with it or is still under development. As such, only the source editor is enabled by default on these pages. If you still wish to edit such page with Visual Editor, you may typically do so by including &veaction=edit
at the end of the page URL.

Can I add to Intelligent Lifeform Index pages?
Yes. Here's more information.
How do I get my character image in the crew roster?
The images and certain other information displayed in crew rosters and some other listings are drawn from characters' ID pages. You can find your character's ID page by searching for <character's name>/ID, for example, Tristan Wolf/ID. Write the name of the file after the parameter IMAGE= (do not include the prefix "File:") and save.
It's recommended to do this in source edit or verify that you only changed the image, because you might accidentally break the ID page. If that happens, there's no reason to panic either! Just ask help from a more experienced user.
What is watchlist?
You may have noticed a link that says "Watchlist" near the top, next to the link to your user preferences. On this page, you can find edits that have been made to the articles, files and other pages since you last checked your watchlist. This way, you can easily monitor what happens on the pages you find interesting or important to you. You can add (and remove) pages to your watchlist by editing your watchlist or by clicking the star icon on a tab near the edit options of each page. Depending on your user preferences, all pages you've edited may be added to the watchlist automatically. Edits to pages on your watchlist will also appear bolded in the Recent Changes page.
