ACTIVE STATUS | ||
| ||
The USS Narendra is equipped with a full complement of shuttles. She is equipped with six Type 18 Shuttlepods, four Type 6 shuttles and two Arrow class runabouts, which are capable of providing a variety of functions.
The Narendra also carries a diplomatic yacht, this is stored in the shuttlebay rather than attached to the hull of the ship as seen in later classes of explorers.
Type 18 Shuttlepods
Type 18 shuttlepods are small shuttles used for evacuation, planetary surface operations and ship-to-ship transfers. In their standard configuration, the Type-18 was only equipped with phaser armaments, however, they can be mounted with numerous other small weapons systems should the need arise.
Although the Type-18 shuttlepod was limited to sublight speeds under its own propulsion, if released from its mothership while at warp speed, it was capable of sustaining the superluminal velocity by generating its own subspace field.

Type 6 Shuttlecraft
Type 6 shuttlecraft were the standard shuttle design for most starship classes from 2350-2375, and are still some of the most numerous shuttles in use today.
The type-6 was designed as a short-range warpshuttle and was classified as a "light" shuttle. It is equipped with an atmospheric airscoop for atmospheric flight and hover field antigravs. The shuttle also features a navigational deflector and redundant graviton polarity source generators. The shuttles on board the Narendra have been refit with a limited portable transporter array
Entry to the shuttle is through a large hatch in the rear of the vessel. The hatch could be opened via a control pad next to the impulse engines. There are benches for passenger seating in the aft section and ample room for cargo. A separate systems display is found in the aft area, along with well stocked storage bins.

Arrow Class Runabouts
Arrow Class Runabouts utilize modular construction in regard to interior makeup. They are compatible with standard Starfleet multi-use compartment modules and are much easier than even the conventional Runabouts being that the warp engines and wings feature a "gull" design which swing open for easy access to the interior.
The compartment modules fit neatly inside and lock into place for optimum refit capability. The Arrow class is slightly longer than the standard Danube. This affords a somewhat roomier cockpit area, more work stations, and a larger crew complement.
The Cockpit and each module may be used as Emergency Escape Pods, complete with independent Life Support systems, RCS Thrusters and Combat Rations. As shown in the diagrams below, should the need arise for Emergency Egress, the entire warp engine section may be jettisoned, freeing all the Modules for independent flight.
The two Arrow class runabouts on board the Narendra are optimized for defense, emergency response and evacuation. Both feature a modular triage area as well as extended transporter capability.
