Along with a full head of bushy hair this race can be distinguished by heavy ridges down their noses. Aware and unafraid of space-farers, they cared little about outside contact through the wormhole. The Rakhari employ a swift and suspect justice system that wielded the death penalty on not only lawbreakers but also all of their relatives.

History
Several hundred years prior to contact with the Alpha Quadrant, shapeshifters were said to have resided on the Rakhari homeworld alongside the Rakhari. As was the case on many worlds, they were persecuted and eventually driven off by their humanoid neighbours. Despite this past experience, and their position in the Gamma Quadrant, the Rakhari have managed to avoid attention from the Dominion through a long-established isolationism.

Society
The Rakhari practice polygynous marriages. While the average male will have two or three wives, the number can reach as high as fifty for men of significant political or financial power. The family unit is seen to be indivisible in Rakhari society and as a result the successes or failures of a single member are shared by the rest of the immediate family. This is particularly evident in the justice system where sentences and punishments may be inflicted on the family members of criminals.
Culture
Customs
Technology
Economy
Mineral exports are the mainstay of the Rakhari economy, which relies heavily on trade with other races. An extensive mining operation exists in asteroid belt of the Rakhari system, which is believed to be one of the richest natural resources in the area. This had the potential to improve the fiscal situation of the Rakhari considerably, but most of the revenue from has disappeared in to the pockets of military officers and corrupt politicians

Federation Intelligence Files
The Rakhari (ra-KAR-ee) are extremely distrustful of strangers and have consistently spurned diplomatic and trade envoys from the Alpha Quadrant. The first Federation vessel to visit their homeworld was the USS Rio Grande under the command of Benjamin Sisko in 2369.
