The Zur'nat are a species that have been locked into a three way civil war for over 1,000 years. They also seem to be oblivious to any other option except victory by force.

The early history of this species is one of survival as a minor ice age covered almost half of the planet. They spent most of their lives fighting the weather, hunting food and searching for better hunting grounds. Eventually the ice age withdrew and they were able to settle the land, plant crops, discover new technology, domesticate certain animals and generally improve their way of life.

Most of the population lived on one of the 3 major islands and a feudal system developed. This was eventually replaced by a monarchy that had everything and the people who had just enough to survive. The head of this government was the Zuron who gave the general of his army the order to slaughter over 1,000 people for a trivial offence about 2,000 years ago.

General Lingrad refused, collected those officers loyal to him, almost all of the army, their families and the entire community he had been ordered to slaughter and escaped to one of the other 2 massive islands.

Right from the beginning a sense of hostility existed between these two nations but it was not until 50 years later that war broke out when the current Zuron ordered a sneak attack with his newly crafted navy and replacement army. It might have succeeded if it was not for the lookouts stationed in tall towers all along the coast near the major harbor used by the Lingrads.

A state of war existed between these two nations for the next 500 years. During this time the Zuron ordered the creation of a large colony on the last of the three major islands. This was done in order to deny that land and its resources to the enemy. Unfortunately the man (Governor Oscow) selected to oversee this colony was ambitious, smart and cunning.

He trained his children well, oversaw the construction of impressive defensive works around all 4 of the major harbors on the island and was able beg supplies, personnel and numerous colonists so that the by the time that he was ready to declare his independence the population in his colony was almost half that of the Zurons.

Now there were three nations, all technically at war with one another, distrustful and determined to maintain their own independence while destroying their enemies. Over the next 1,000 years many wars were fought between them with even more naval conflicts. Not much was achieved by these conflicts except a few dead and maybe some new technological advance.

With the creation of air craft these wars took on a new dimension. Now they have fairly sophisticated scanning and tracking systems that let them know when ever any ship or plane cross's the midline between their various island nations. This usually results in a running battle between the different military forces.

The discovery of space craft about 500 years ago resulted in them expanding their insane militarist expansionist desires into space. They have each staked out their own territories in space, constructed stations, facilities and established outposts on moons, asteroids and other planets.

In 2247 the USS Terra Nova entered their system, observed a battle taking place between two forces of almost equal size and while distracted were ambushed by a third force. They took extensive damage, lost approximately 1/3 of the crew before they were able to fight their way clear and escape from the system.

Since then all attempts by the Federation to offer their assistance in mediating some form of peace between the three nations has been rejected. Any and all alien ships entering the system have been considered fair game and attacked.


The planet is divided into three massive island nations with the rest of the planets much smaller islands and oceans being divided between and controlled by them. Each of these nations is named after the massive island they developed on which is also the name of their individual capital cities.

The 3 different nations are called Lingrad, Oscow, and Insk. Lingrad has a military government with officers rising through the ranks until they reach the position of Supreme Field Commander of the Armed Forces of Lingrad which is the highest office in their nation. Oscow has a dictatorship. One that occasionally passes from individual to individual but regardless of who is in office they have complete control over the nation and everyone in it. Insk has a monarchy, one with 100% power of life and death over every single citizen in their nation.


The Zur'nat people are on average about 5’10" to 6’ tall and weighs between 165 lbs to 200 lbs. They have a very pale gray tone to their skin. Their eyes are brown or black and so is their hair. Men keep their hair cut extremely short but females wear their hair long, down past their shoulders and usually tied back into a ponytail or a single braid.

They all dress similar, regardless of age or sex. With slight differences depending on which island nation they come from they prefer loose pants, strong well-made boots, loose shirts and thick heavy long coats during cold weather.


As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. They are typical humanoids with most of the physical, mental and biological medical problems that seem to plague most humanoids.


Depression seems to be the biggest mental problem which most treat with an alcoholic drink called Odca. As can be guessed their other big problem is alcoholism. Other than this they seem to suffer from the normal collection of mental illnesses that seem to inflict most intelligent humanoids. Unfortunately not much is done to treat them except to lock them up in massive prison like compounds in inhospitable locations and experiment on them.


With the limited contact and data available it is difficult to determine a concise answer to this question. However most experts seem to agree that based on the data available that none of the three nations have any religion. It would seem that the early Zurons did not want any competition or force that might one day be able to challenge their authority.

The people of all three nations tend to be a grim, sober species with service to their nation coming first. Most crimes are materialistic in nature but regardless of the type of crime it is all dealt with harshly. The government of all three nations maintains a very firm grip over the population and judgment is both swift and final.

All of their communities are built of gray stone or gray building materials, dull, drab, squat structures with a somber almost ominous feel to them. Nothing has been done to make any of the appealing.


While none of the 3 nations seem to go in much for art of any kind they all do enjoy singing, music and dancing. Every community have an abundance of drinking establishments which all serve Odca and almost always have a couple musicians playing in the background. Most people will drink, yell, sing and dance for hours.


No specific customs for any of the 3 nations are known at this time.


They have fighters that can operate both in space or an atmosphere. They have space ships that act as fighter carriers. They use energy weapons and while they have long since progressed past old fashioned ballistic weapons most of their planetary forces still use many different versions of this highly advanced yet outdated form of weaponry. Their space craft can achieve warp 4.5 but this has not stopped them from fighting battles in the deep reaches of space.


None of the three nations trade with each other or with any off world species. They are completely self-sufficient and their economies are basic bare bones survival. Work by the masses of civilian workers is directed by their governments towards food production, military production and basic survival production with just a tiny miniscule amount wasted on luxury goods.


Since the three nations are almost equal in technology, military strength and industrial production capabilities their wars for the last 700 years have mostly been infrequent raids by infantry (5% of total yearly combat), naval battles fought by a number of different types of water craft including submersibles (15% of total yearly combat), air battles with in the atmosphere of their world (35% of total yearly combat) and for the last 100 years combat in space between various space craft (45% of total yearly combat).

The 3 different nations use both color and emblems to identify their military vessels and military personnel. The people of Lingrad wear black uniforms with a silver hammer as their emblem. The people of Oscow wear gray uniforms with a white fist as their emblem. The people of Insk wear a dark earth brown uniform with a red star as their emblem.
