The Yattho are a species who avoid conflict, who appreciate the tranquil harmony and true beauty of nature and all her incredible gifts. Many believe that they can see the future. That this is why they are pacifists. Others that they are simply deluded fools who have been lucky so far to avoid all the dangers of alien contact. Regardless of the truth their world is a paradise, one of joy, relaxation and calm inner peace.

History

They have had a peaceful history, one of co-operation and mutual assistance, with no real wars and only a few minor episodes of civil unrest or aggressive activity. Most experts believe this is mainly due to their precognitive abilities which make it virtually impossible to surprise or attack anyone else on their world without their knowing about it before hand.

However other experts believe that it may be due to their very strong spiritual beliefs that promote a passive, non-aggressive way of life. In fact every single community on the planet has a massive temple dedicated to meditation and spiritual enlightenment complete with enormous gardens full of waterfalls, fountains, ponds and exotic plants and birds. Regardless they live in harmony with their world, taking infinite care not to pollute or in any other way to damage the environment around them.

They developed at a slow but fairly consistent pace and eventually discovered the existence of other species in the depths of space around them. This sparked a change in their technological needs and eventually resulted in a space program, one that did not produce any harmful pollutants.

They built a number of freighters and other civilian transport ships and established peaceful contact with those that their precognitive abilities showed them could be trusted.

Once their precognitive abilities became known a number of alien species tried to capture or attack them in order to gain access to their powers. In every case these attempts were easily defeated resulting in them being left alone except for the occasional fringe element that does not believe the stories about them and has to be shown the hard way that they are true.

Government

They have a unified system of government which is controlled and operated by a planet wide religious order of monks who receive their training at the various temples scattered across the planet in every community. These monks select among themselves who will hold what position. This includes every community government as well as the different regional zones and the unified central government as well.

Description

They are a typical humanoid species with rounded almost ageless features. It is very hard to determine their age by their looks. They normally have dark eyes, either brown or black and all of them have black hair. Both males and females will have shoulder length to lower back length hair. In appearance and mentality they appear to be very relaxed and calm all the time, almost serine and they are extremely patient. They tend to wear long flowing robes that just barely touch the floor. These robes are plain in pale colors for the men and highly decorated with many bright colors and intricate patterns or images for the women.

Physiology

As with most intelligent humanoid species they have a very complex system with specialized organs, and unique hormones, chemicals and enzymes. Due to their way of life they all tend to be very healthy and in excellent physical condition. One branch of the planet wide religious order is dedicated to medicine and they have excellent facilities in every community on the planet. Strangely enough there are very few injuries as a result of accidents. This may be due to their precognitive abilities.

Precognitive Abilities

As with any species that has some special ability there will be those who are exceptionally gifted and those that have marginal abilities. The same can be said of the Yattho as well although even the least gifted among them has enough ability that they can sense danger to themselves and usually do something to avoid said danger.

Psychology

As a result of their way of life, deep spirituality and tendency to meditate almost daily mental illness seems to be an almost unheard of problem for them. As a whole they seem to be a very calm, laid back people. Only the very old ever seem to develop any natural mental illnesses and only a very small number of them ever do.

Religion

There is a very large and well organized religious order of monks who are divided into a few different branches. The 1st branch is made up primarily of females and is dedicated to medicine in all its many forms. The 2nd branch is dedicated to the enlightenment of the spirit and to meditation. This group operates and maintains the temples as well as assisting any citizen who needs it with the enlightenment of their spirit and assisting them in their efforts to meditate. The 3rd and last branch is dedicated to organization and planning. These individual become the leaders and organizers of communities and various different programs or projects for the betterment of all life on the planet.

Chi Nah

This is considered to be a form of meditation, spiritual renewal and a means to promote physical health. It consists of a series of slow, flowing movements that works the entire body and every single muscle group. Normally everyone does it at least once a day and a short session lasts over an hour and a long one can last a few hours. Most people will do this in a garden, usually one of the many surrounding the central temple or in a park or their own private gardens.

Mythology

They do not really have any form of mythology, fables or legends. Merely a deep understanding of themselves and a love of the planet they live on.

Society

They have a very relaxed and yet exceptionally well organized society with every community being laid out with great thought and care to the establishment of the central temple, parks, fountains, waterfalls, ponds, facilities and the use of exotic plants. Transportation, sanitation, water and all other basic essentials are set up to maximize their use while minimizing their appearance and impact on nature.

No one goes hungry, or lacks for educational, spiritual or medical assistance if needed. Crime is completely unheard of and they all live and work together in harmony with the world around them.

Population

Their population has been stagnant for over 1,000 years with all couples being allowed 2 children and if any couple wants more children they can submit a request. The monks keep close tabs on the population and census data and authorize the birth of additional children as needed to keep the population at a constant level.

Culture

They have a deep love of nature and their planet. As a result exotic plants and birds are everywhere and artificial waterfalls, fountains and ponds are a part of almost every home, business and workspace. Added to this are the flutes and the pan pipes that make such unique melodies, almost everyone on the planet can play one or both of these instruments.

Customs

Their few customs revolve around marriages, child birth and their intense love of the world around them and the need to protect the environment at all costs.

Technology

Their love of their planet and concern regarding ensuring that no pollution or damage is caused to their fragile eco-systems has in some ways affected their technological growth, forcing them to take much longer in discovering some new forms of technology in order to make sure that it would be both safe to people and the planet they live on.

Economy

They are completely self-sufficient and do not need to conduct any trade but they do. They have a great love for exotic plants and birds and if those exotic plants and birds can be safely incorporated into their environment without damaging their fragile eco-system then they will avidly seek to bring in enough for every temple on the planet. They also enjoy exotic foods, fruit and various other food sources but as they are completely vegetarian they avoid any foods that include animal parts. They export plants, foods and exotic birds.

Travel

Very few Yattho every leave their world and those that do seldom stay away for very long. This has limited their exploration of the universe around them but does not seem to have been a big problem for them. Added to this is the fact that when they do visit other species they normally do so posing as members of some other terran looking humanoid species so as to avoid any undue attention or possible confrontations.

Military

While they have no military and never have, since becoming a space faring species they knew they would need some form of protection. As a result they have developed numerous types of defensive systems intended to protect their homeworld.

Mines

They have a number of different mine designs most of them with primitive to advanced cloaking capabilities. Thanks to their precognitive abilities it is a simple thing for them to place mines in the path of any aggressive force that may enter their system. So far this has worked every time and has resulted in the complete destruction of all those who would try to attack them.

Satellites

These come in two main types, deep space scanners and weapons platforms. All are powered by the energy from their sun. The weapons platforms have extensive shielding but are easily detected by any active scanning. They serve as an early warning to any aggressive force that the Yattho are willing and able to defend themselves, especially as these platforms will warn the attacker to leave the system. If the attacking force ignores the warning then the mines will eliminate them.

Ko Ba

Is an offshoot of their meditative exercise Chi Nah. In many ways it is a form of defensive martial arts. One that uses their opponents force against them. When combined with even limited precognitive abilities this smooth flowing and graceful swaying art makes them almost impossible to hit. Even with most projectile weapons.

Federation Intelligence Files

The Yattho are a species native to the Beta Quadrant, known for their precognitive abilities. They have been known to predict future events with exceptional accuracy.
