T'lani is a graduate of the [[Vulcan Science Academy]], and a scientist currently involved in the space sciences (astrophysics, cosmology, astronomy, etc). She works with Varaan's father on the Vulcan Science Council. She is a beautiful woman (even Vulcans can appreciate asthetics), and very intelligent. Their union had been arranged when they were children, but they truly love each other (as close to love as Vulcans get).

While a member of the {{USS|Paladin}} and {{USS|Atlantis}} (2379-2382), he got very close to {{nrank|Dr.|Jennifer Catherine|Greene}}, {{n|Jefferson Nariah}}, and (his "best friend" on board) {{n|Torin|Jamar}}.<br>

After being alone for so long as a deep cover operative within the [[Par'tha Expanse]], Varaan's return to "normal society" and the Starfleet "mainstream" has revealed that all of his old acquaintances and shipmates from the past have moved on in one way or another...except one. {{nrank|Commander|Marcus|Dickens}}, who was a fresh faced Ensign when ''Atlantis'' originally launched in 2382, had returned to ''Atlantis'' upon the relaunch in 2391. While calling their relationship a "friendship" might have been pushing it, Dickens was the closest thing to a friend that Varaan had. Unfortunately, Marcus went MIA during a mission when they were both assigned to the {{USS|Apollo|A}}.<br><br>

Varaan met [[Randal Shayne]] when they were both assigned to the {{USS|Apollo|A}}, though they were hardly more than acquaintances and shipmates. It was only once they had both been reassigned to the {{USS|Triumphant}}, and had to endure a shuttlecraft journey of weeks to get from the first vessel to the second, that they both began opening up and a friendship started. It is still in the infancy stages, but both men seem to be benefiting from it.<br><br><br><br>
