Doreen Finch, most commonly known as Doz, is a lively, hands-on and occasionally facetious Human, currently posted as an Engineering Officer to the USS Gorkon, the flagship of the Tyrellian Defence and Exploration Taskforce.
After completing a course at the Martian Technical Services Academy, qualifying as a Maintenance Engineer, she and a squadron of all-male friends began their careers as Starfleet Enlisted Personnel, with her own first Tour of Duty being aboard the USS Bonestell alongside her confidant, Bob Murphy.
In her Chief Petty Officer years, it was often suggested by higher ranking officers that she commissioned as one herself. However Finch regularly rebuffed the suggestion, preferring her life "on the lower decks".
This all changed however with the death of Murphy, who she had reunited with aboard the USS Marigold; this profound loss caused her to utterly lose her emotional footing, and acted as the catalyst she needed to pursue a furtherance as Ensign, making her an older starting and therefore non-traditional officer.

Background
She was born to Iris and Freddie Finch in Uruguary, on Earth, the youngest of five and the only girl. Her father, an englishman from Birmingham, was an enlisted crewman and worked away a lot, while her mother Iris, an englishwoman from Coventry, was an outsourced wildlife scientist. Finch spent many years of her life in Uruguay, and therefore is able to speak Spanish despite its rare usage in present-day Federation.
When she reached a certain age, she and her brothers moved back to England for a couple of years before joining the Starfleet Technical Services Academy on Mars. While there, Finch met Bob Murphy and several other men who became her life-long friends and confidants. Many of their postings crossed over during their tenures, including Finch and Murphy's aboard the USS Marigold, until his untimely demise.
Characteristically lively and upbeat, this devastating loss changed Finch so profoundly that it resulted in her leaving the enlisted ranks, and into the officer ones instead.
Starfleet Career
Around age 20, Finch attended an intensive programme at the Mars Technical Services Academy, and it's attached speciality school, and soon after qualified as a Maintenance Engineer, focused on checking, repairing and servicing the interior subsystems of Federation starships. Although not her speciality, on her first Tour of Duty aboard the USS Bonestell, she was regularly ordered to perform maintenance on the ship's outer hull by a cantankerous Chief Engineering Officer. It was during these duties however that she ended up fostering an appreciation for spacewalking.
Although not as academically-minded as other engineers, Finch's practical approach throughout her career enabled her to quickly learn how best to maintain the ships and facilities she worked on - and not without mistakes either. In her early days, she was often found squinting at manuals in confusion, and later abandoning them to enact her own coarse but clever style of repairs.
