Professional History

Haruko spent two years after high school devoting herself full-time to her pursuit of Ikebana, Japanese flower arrangement, and only upon reaching the second rank (Nidan) did she apply to and get accepted at Starfleet Academy.

Initially she was told she would not qualify due to her having suffered a stroke at age 7 as a result of the Viron Plague, however she passed all physical and agility tests well within human standards and at least right-handed scored exceptionally well in marksmanship. She was trained in the science branch, but surprisingly to all she performed extremely well in the security courses, mostly on account of her Aikido training.
