Meru was born in 2375 and raised primarily on Deep Space Nine where her mother (a member of the Bajoran Militia) was posted, though the family made frequent visits to her uncle’s farm in Bajor's Dahkur Province throughout her childhood. Meru had no siblings so she cherished time spent with her cousins on the farm. She was schooled on the station by a Bajoran tutor with two other children near her age. She spent her spare time reading about distant planets and pestering various crewmembers into letting her shadow them, solidifying her desire to one day join Starfleet.
