*Ryan met his partner, Jake Kinelle, in his sophomore, Jake's junior, year. They were married after Jake graduated, and once Jake was assigned as engineer aboard the ''[[Victory|Starship Victory]]'', Ryan asked to be placed there as counselor. By a stroke of luck, the ''Victory'' needed an assistant counselor, and so he was assigned.

*The Victory was Ryan's first posting; he was an ensign straight out of the Academy. He served there, under Counselor Ventu, until the ship was decommissioned. He and Jake then requested, and were granted, a transfer together; they ended up on the ''Starship Malinche''.
